Iran agrees to five-year nuclear program freeze – NYT

At diplomatic meetings in Pakistan, Iran and the United States moved on to discussing specific dates for suspending Iran's nuclear activities. According to The New York Times, the parties differed in their assessments of the period: Washington insists on a 20-year moratorium, while Tehran allegedly expressed its readiness to freeze uranium enrichment for up to five years.

The fate of the already accumulated fuel has also become a stumbling block. The United States is demanding the removal of 440 kg of uranium enriched to 60% from Iran. Iranian representatives say that the fuel should remain inside the country, but they propose to significantly dilute it in order to exclude the possibility of creating nuclear weapons.

The White House confirmed the discussions – the United States wants to hold a new round of consultations. Previously, negotiations are scheduled for Thursday.
