Dr. Mathai Fenn is the son of Dr Baker Fenn(1934-2009), a well known Psychiatrist in and around the town of Kottayam in the state of Kerala, India. He is married to his friend and former classmate, Dr Jessy Fenn. She is currently a faculty at Rajagiri College of Social Sciences, Kochi, where she teaches psychology. They have two sons, The older one, Amit a graduate student of Biology at LMU, Munich, Germany and the younger son Rohit is an undergraduate student in Vermont USA.

Mathai did his BA from UC College Aluva and MA from the Psychology Dept of Kerala University. He did his PhD from IIT Bombay. For a decade he was a faculty member at XLRI Jamshedpur where he also served as the Area Coordinator for the Organizational Behaviour Dept.

Among his professional assignments, one included being a Santa in a store in Bombay and as a door to door sales person in Bombay. Among his certificates is one he received for climbing a mountain in Armenia during a student outing.

Mathai is a Cognitive Psychologist and a critic on the reductionism rampant in positivistic academic psychology. He has presented numerous papers in conferences around the world and has authored a book, a toolkit to help Non-profit organizations partner with business firms.
