International Women's Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender equality.
International Women's Day gives focus to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence and abuse against women. [3][4] Spurred by the universal female suffrage movement, International Women's Day originated from labor movements in Europe and North America during the early 20th century. [5][6][7]
International Women's Day is a chance to rise and demand action and to deliver on the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action to make the world equal and better for everyone. The official UN Commemoration event of the International Women's Day will take place on 7 March from 10 - 11.30 a.m. at the UN General Assembly Hall in New York.
