Installing AOSP-Based Custom ROM on Flame (6.6 Kernel)
Pradip⚠️ WARNING: Do not flash any third-party custom recovery (OrangeFox / TWRP). They are not supported on the latest platform and can cause a hard brick. Use only the recovery image provided with this ROM.
# Prerequisites
- Unlocked bootloader
- Latest HyperOS 3 stock ROM for your region installed
- PC with adb and fastboot (Android platform-tools)
- Reliable USB cable
- Battery charged to at least 50%
# First-Time Installation
Use this if you are coming from stock firmware or any other custom ROM (including ones not based on the 6.6 kernel).
# 1. Flash the latest HyperOS 3 stock ROM
Install the latest HyperOS 3 stock ROM for your region before proceeding.
# 2. Boot into bootloader mode
Power off the device, Hold Volume Down + Power, Keep holding until FASTBOOT appears, then release.
# 3. Flash the image files
Connect the device to your PC and run:
fastboot flash boot boot.img fastboot flash dtbo dtbo.img fastboot flash vendor_boot vendor_boot.img fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
# 4. Reboot into recovery
fastboot reboot recovery
# 5. Sideload the ROM
In recovery, choose Apply update → Apply from ADB, then run:
adb sideload <rom>.zip
# 6. Sideload GApps (optional)
After the ROM finishes, recovery may prompt you to reboot to recovery to flash an additional zip. Select Yes if you want GApps, then run:
adb sideload <gapps>.zip
# 7. Factory reset
Select Factory Reset → Format data / factory reset and continue with formatting.
# 8. Reboot to system
Select Reboot system now. The first boot may take several minutes.
# Updating from an Existing 6.6-Based Custom ROM
1. Flash the recovery image:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
2. Reboot to recovery and sideload the ROM zip:
adb sideload <rom>.zip
# Clean flash vs. dirty flash
- Coming from any other custom ROM: clean flash (factory reset required)
- Updating within the same ROM: dirty flash is fine, unless the release notes say otherwise
