Months after the defeat of the Injustice Society at the hands of the Justice Society of America, Cindy Burman returns to Blue Valley and takes refuge in Dragon King’s underground tunnels. She opens a folder of potential candidates and tears a photo of Henry King Jr. in half, as his death made him useless. She lays out images of the ISA’s children, including Artemis Crock , Isaac Bowin , and Cameron Mahkent . She also lays down a photo of JSA protégé Mike Dugan . She holds up the black diamond Eclipso and states they have some recruiting to do.
Her first recruit is the isolated son of Anaya Bowin/The Fiddler . She approaches Isaac and offers to be his friend, showing sympathy for the loss of his mother in a “terrible hunting accident”. She admits that her parents are also dead and had died horribly. Cindy takes him to the tunnels and explains this was where their parents used to meet in the hopes of saving the world - before the Justice Society of America killed them. She shows him a portrait of the Injustice Society of America . He recognizes his father in the portrait. She explains he was known as The Fiddler, and presents Isaac with the fiddle his father and mother used. Isaac can't play the fiddle, but Cindy is confident he'll learn.
Next, she seeks out the volatile and golden athlete Artemis Crock during football tryouts. She uses Eclipso to make Artemis hallucinate S.W.A.T. agents preparing to assassinate her parents who had recently escaped prison. Artemis lashes out and attacks who she believes are S.W.A.T. agents, though in reality, she attacks the coach and Courtney Whitmore . Artemis is pulled off her victims when she realizes that she hallucinated. Cindy approaches Artemis after the tryouts while the girl is angry over having lost a college coaches recommendation over the anger displayed during tryouts. Cindy understands Artemis's anger, though she doesn't think the team deserved her anyway. She offers her the chance to be part of a different team - one in which her parents were members. [1]
Cindy hopes to finish her first round of recruitment with Cameron Mahkent , who had recently lost his father Jordan Mahkent . She tried to appeal to him in the art room at Blue Valley High School , offering her condolences for the loss of his father. Cameron refuses to accept much to Cindy's surprise. He reminds her of the fourth grade when her mother died and she only said that she, "never liked her anyway". No one could ever forget that and he doubts Cindy has ever felt sorry about anything in her life. Following the failed recruitment, Cindy returns to the ISA headquarters where Artemis demands to know what happened with Cameron, as their fight was meant to be four versus four. Cindy brushes her off as no longer needing Cameron, calling him a lost cause. She has other plans for Mike Dugan , however, but the only thing they need is the black diamond . Isaac questions what the diamond does so Cindy ominously states that it's power. [2]
Even without Cameron, Cindy launches her offensive against the JSA. She kidnaps Mike and sends Artemis and Isaac to destroy S.T.R.I.P.E. Then she calls Courtney for their last battle. At the Lycee of Blue Valley, in the night, Stargirl, Wildcat and Hourman fight the Injustice Unlimited while Beth searches Mike and rescues him.
After the first fight, Cindy wants to invoke Eclipso to finish it. Shade arrives after Barbara calls him to help Courtney and her friends. But Eclipso possesses Cindy and during the fight, Stargirl destroys accidentally the Black Diamond, freeing him. Once free, Eclipso kills Isaac. Then, he seeming kills Cindy while Artemis escapes in time. Eclipso injures Shade and defeats the JSA before fleeing.
