The Indian Four was a motorcycle built by the Indian Motocycle Company from 1928 to 1942. It was based on the Ace motorcycle, which Indian bought as part of the assets of the Ace Motor Corporation in 1927.

Indian released the Indian Ace Four a year later in 1928, before dropping the "Ace" name and going with the simpler name Indian Four from that moment till production ceased in 1942 as the American war effort ramped up. Interestingly, Arthur would stay at Indian, working on the inline-4 and continuing to develop it well into the 1930s.

The last year of Indian Four manufacture was 1942, with America's involvement in World War II on the horizon. An interesting side story is that Harley-Davidson considered a similar approach. They visited the financially strapped Cleveland Motorcycle Company and carefully examined its Four, but declined to purchase the rights to manufacture it.
