The Secret Life of the American Teenager was a popular show that ran from 2008 all the way to 2013. There was no shortage of drama that happened in Grant High School. Amy Juergens gets pregnant at band camp, and the pregnancy affects her friends and family during the course of the show. We get to see the characters grow up during their teenage years and all the ups and downs in between. What is the cast up to now? Here’s a look at some of the notable cast members today.
Shailene Woodley played the role of the main character, Amy Juergens. Amy has a fling with drummer Ricky Underwood at band camp, and is forced to deal with the consequences. She struggles with hard decisions whether or not to keep the baby or put the baby up for adoption.
Her friends and family weigh in their opinions. During the course of the show she dates both Ricky and another boy Ben Boykewich, but loves Ricky the most.
By the time the series was over, Shailene was a star in Hollywood. She starred in a number of films including romantic drama The Fault in Our Stars, and in the biographical thriller Snowden.
In 2017, she came back to TV to appear in Big Little Lies alongside Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman. Shailene is also an activist and co-founded a non profit youth leadership organization with her mother in 2010 called All it Takes.
Ashley Juergens, Amy’s sister, was played by India Eisley in the series. Ashley is cynical at times and has a decent relationship with her sister, Amy. She believes that Amy’s baby would reunite her family and is against Amy’s suggestion of adoption.
She runs into problems in season three, when she develops feelings for Ricky and this causes problems between her and her sister. Further into the show, Ashley ends up traveling cross-country with her friend Toby.
Since the series ended, India landed a number of movies roles. She was in the action film Kite along with Samuel L. Jackson, The Curse of Sleeping Beauty, and the Netflix original film, Clinical.
In 2019, India was cast alongside Chris Pine and plays the role of Fauna Hodel in a six part series called I Am the Night. Hodel wrote the memoir, One Day She’ll Darken: The Mysterious Beginnings of Fauna Hodel, and this series is based on that book. Things are looking good for India Eisley!
Benjamin “Ben” Boykewich was played by Kenny Baumann in the series. Ben is a hopeless romantic and tends to move too fast. He dates Amy Juergens at the start of the show and even asks her to marry him after she gets pregnant with her bandmate, Ricky Underwood.
Ben remains loyal to her throughout the pregnancy until he catches Amy and Ricky kissing. Ben also gets involved with another girl, Adrian Lee. The two have a baby together that is tragically stillborn.
Since the show ended, Kenny has made quite a name for himself. Not only is he an actor, but he is an accomplished writer, book designer, and publisher. Some of his novels include The Country and Earthbound, and he’s also written various poems and short stories.
He owns a nonprofit publishing company called Sator Press and published a literary journal with fellow writer and editor, Blake Butler. Kenny was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease in 2012 is very open about his road to recovery. In addition, he currently works with the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America.
George Juergens is the father of Amy and Ashley Juergens in the show, and was played by Mark Derwin. George tends to be clueless and immature at times, but cares about his family above all else.
George was previously married to Kathleen Juergens, but had gotten divorced years before. He is married to Anne Scott, but in season four he realizes he is still in love with Kathleen, and the two get remarried in season five.
Marks career was on the rise before joining the series cast and was a soap opera regular. He was in shows like Days of Our Lives, The Young and the Restless, and One Life to Live.
Since his fatherly role as George Juergens, he’s made some appearances in famous shows such as How I Met Your Mother, Chuck, Mad Men, 24, and Hot In Cleveland. Things do not seem to be slowing down for Mark!
Grace Bowman was portrayed well by Megan Park. At the start of the show, Grace is an innocent, devout Christian and does her best to keep that status. That is, until she becomes involved with the popular football quarterback, Jack Pappas.
She has many disagreements with him on whether or not to lose her virginity before marriage. Over the course of the show, she also gets involved with Daniel who is a college student, but finds a way to win back Jack’s heart.
After the series ended, Megan appeared in numerous roles and tried her hand in the music industry. She starred in the horror film Demonic, and in the critically acclaimed film Room.
Megan formed a band in 2009 and although she left shortly after, she starred in a number of music videos later in her career. And most recently, Megan started directing short films. Megan also got married to actor Tyler Hilton in 2015. Such a busy woman!
Who could forget Jack Pappas, Grace Bowman’s boyfriend at the start of the show? Jack was portrayed by Greg Finley and is one of the main characters on the series. He dates Grace but their relationship is on the rocks when she is unsure if she is ready to lose her virginity to him.
During the show he gets involved with a number of girls at Grant High School and in the end he gets married to Amy Juergens’ best friend, Madison Cooperstein.
Greg Finley was practically an unknown actor before playing the role of Jack Pappas. Shortly after the show ended, Greg continued his series streak as a regular in the sci-fi teen drama, Star- Crossed.
In addition, he starred in the horror film Hypothermia and in the 2018 thriller The Witch Files. And time’s got nothing on Greg and series co-star Darren Kagasoff. Six years later and they still go golfing together in their free time!
Francia Raisa played the character of Adrian Lee in on the hit series. Adrian was a smart student who always gets straight As. She pines after Amy Juergens’ boyfriend Ricky Underwood for most of the show but gets married to Ben Boykewich and has a baby with him who is stillborn.
This ruins their relationship and they ultimately get divorced. Later in season four, Adrian begins dating Omar and they get engaged by the end of season five.
Francia Raisa’s big break was her role as Adrian Lee, but before the show she starred in the movie Bring It On: All or Nothing, thanks to her background in cheerleading. Since then, she’s appeared on a number of popular shows, like The Mindy Project, Dear White People, and Black-ish.
What’s even more impressive is that she recently signed on as series regular in the 2018 sitcom Grown-ish, which is a spinoff of the series Black-ish. In 2017, Francia made headlines for donating a kidney to her friend and Lose You To Love Me singer, Selena Gomez. She is one dedicated friend!
Ricky Underwood is a womanizer at Grant High School, and was portrayed by Daren Kagasoff. Ricky gets Amy Juergens pregnant the first time they’re together and throughout the show he is seen on and off with her.
Although he denies that he is the father of Amy’s unborn child during most of the pregnancy, he is a loving and supportive father to his son John. He gets back together with Amy at the end of the show and moves to New York to be with her.
Ricky Underwood was Daren’s first breakout role in Hollywood. He was nominated for a number of Teen Choice Awards for the show, and won in 2009 for Choice Summer TV Star. After the series finished, Daren’s acting career took off.
He played a major role in TV adaptation of Lauren Oliver’s New York Times bestseller Delirium. He then starred in the film Oujia and had a recurring role in the medical comedy-drama Red Band Society. In his free time, Daren goes surfing and golfing with co-star Greg Finley.
Leo Boykewich was played by Steve Schirripa, and is one of the wisest characters on the show. He is the father of Ben Boykewich, and supports all of his son’s decisions throughout the series.
He approves of his son getting married to Amy Juergens and even gives Ben a job at his butcher shop to help support Amy and her son. He gets married to a former prostitute named Betty, but by season five, he falls in love with his longtime secretary, Camille.
Steve was no stranger to TV before playing the role of Leo, and is most famous for his portrayal of Bobby “Bacala” Baccalieri on the hit drama, The Sopranos. After the show ended in 2013, Steve starred as Vito in the screen adaptation of Jersey Boys, and joined the cast of the hit show Blue Bloods in 2015.
In addition to acting, Steve launched a line of organic pasta called Uncle Steve’s Italian Specialties, and lives with his Laura Lemos and their two daughters, Bria and Ciara.
In the hit series, Anne Juergens was portrayed by the famous teen icon, Molly Ringwald. Anne is the mother of Amy and Ashley Juergens. She doesn’t want her children making the same mistakes she did as a teenager but supports Amy’s decision to keep the baby when Amy tells her that she’s pregnant.
During season two, Anne is pregnant with George’s child and the baby is born in her house. But nothing is more surprising than when Anne falls in love with a woman and A.A. sponsor, Willadean.
Before joining the cast, Molly was a Hollywood legend back in the ’80s and ’90s. She was best known for starring in the hit movies, Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, and Pretty In Pink. She had also received a Golden Globe nomination for her role in the film The Tempest.
Since 2013, Molly landed another reoccurring role in the show Riverdale. She married writer Panio Gianopoulos, and have three children. Fun fact— one of her pregnancies was written into the storyline of The Secret Life of the American Teenager.
Amy Juergens’ best friend, Lauren Treacy, was played by Camille Winbush. Lauren is the more practical one in the friendship and persuades Amy to see a doctor after discovering her pregnancy.
Lauren also dates a boy named Jesse for part of the show, until he cheats on her with one of her best friends, Madison Cooperstein. Because of this, she and Amy don’t speak to Madison for some time, until their fathers make them have a dinner to forgive one another.
Camille was a veteran to the TV scene. Before the show, she starred as Vanessa Thomkins on the popular sitcom, The Bernie Mac Show. In addition to acting, Camille is a singer! She recorded the track, One Small Voice, which featured Myra and Gossip Girl actress Taylor Momsen.
She also recorded The Night Before Christmas Song for the album, School’s Out! Christmas, and sang on the soundtrack for Disney’s Geppetto production. Whether it’s for acting or lending her vocals, Camille definitely has a bright future in Hollywood!
Kathleen Juergens is the stepmother of Amy and Ashley Juergens, and is played by Josie Bissett. Kathleen is married to Dr. Marshall Bowman. Although it seems like their marriage is perfect, Marshall was having an affair while claiming to go to Africa for healing missions.
After Marshall loses his life in a plane crash, Kathleen begins dating a younger doctor Dr. Jeff Tsegay. Although the two get married, Kathleen eventually divorces Jeff and gets back together with her first husband, George. They happily tie the knot in season five.
Before playing Kathleen Juergens, Josie was already a household name after her successful role as Jane Mancini on Melrose Place. When the series was over, Josie starred a few TV movies such as The Wedding March movies which premiered on the Hallmark Channel.
Josie has done a number of things besides acting. She hosted a series called Parenting & Beyond, which discusses problems and solutions to everyday parenting. She was also the face of multiple skin care campaigns, including Neutrogena’s skin care line.
Luke Zimmerman played the part of Tom Bowman in the show. Tom is the adoptive son of the Bowman family and has Downs Syndrome. He is loyal to his family and is very protective of his sister, Grace.
During the show, Luke wants to be in relationships like everyone else in high school. For example, he meets a girl name Tammy and wants to marry her after their first date. He also proposes to Adrian when he finds out that she’s pregnant.
Luke was just starting out as an actor before the series. Prior to the show, he starred in the TV movie Daughter of the Streets, alongside actors Jane Alexander and John Stamos. Since The Secret Life of the American Teenager, Luke appeared in a few shows.
He played a part on the hit show Glee, and in the HBO show Getting On. In addition, Luke was awarded the Quincy Jones Exceptional Advocacy Award in 2012 for his all of his efforts and self-advocacy in regards to Down Syndrome.
Henry Miller’s girlfriend, Alice Valko, was played by actress Amy Rider in the series. Alice is very mature and had been dating Henry since the third grade. Alice isn’t sure if she loves Henry, so they break up in season 4.
Even though they are not together, Alice gets very angry after finding Henry and Adrian in bed together at a graduation party. Although Alice sleeps with her and Henry’s friend, Ben Boykewich, She gets back together with Henry in the season finale.
Amy was just starting her acting career before the series, and appeared in shows like Without a Trace and Veronica Mars. Since the show, Amy starred in a number of films including The Monogamy Experiment and Mega Shark vs. Kolossus, where she plays the main character Moira King.
She also played a role in the post-apocalyptic series Z Nation. Amy hasn’t done much acting since 2018, but we hope to see her land another hit series soon!
Jorge Pallo played the attractive school counselor Marc Mollina in The Secret Life of the American Teenager. He is a big hit with the girls in season one. Amy Juergen’s two best friends, Lauren Treacy and Madison Cooperstein, talk about how good looking he is.
He helps a lot of the characters, especially Ben and Adrian, but mysteriously disappears in season two. We later find out that he left to get married and that his wife is pregnant.
Before his role as Marc Molina, Jorge appeared in a number of shows, including Pacific Blue, Malcom in the Middle, and CSI: Miami. Jorge has continued his acting career since the series ended, appearing on episodes of Desperate Housewives, NCIS: Los Angeles, and American Horror Story: Cult.
In his spare time, Jorge is very generous and gives back to the community. He is involved with some organizations such as the Hollywood Heart, an organization that helps at- risk youths through education of the arts.
Jennifer Coolidge played Betty Boykewich in the hit show. Betty had a rough past and used to be a prostitute. She tells this to the man she’s dating, Leo Boykewich, at the start of their relationship. In season two she wants to get married to Leo, but is still legally married to her ex-husband.
Leo tracks him down and finds out he is no longer alive. The two get married in a fancy wedding, but by season four, Betty feels that Leo and not happy and decides that she wants a divorce.
Prior to the show, Jennifer was already an established actress. She is most famously known for her role as Jeanine Stifler in the American Pie movie franchise, as well as Paulette Bonafonté Parcelle in Legally Blond.
She’s had a successful career since, and joined another cast on series of Two Broke Girls. In addition to acting in TV and film, Jennifer has also mastered the stage, and was nominated for a Drama Desk award for her performance in the play Elling.
Mayim Bialik played the recurring role of Dr. Wilameena Bink in the hit series and joined the cast in season 2. Dr. Bink was one of the school counselors at Grant High School, and made some waves when she took a student from her previous school to the prom.
She claimed that she went with him only because she loves to dance. She also started the Mother/Daughter Dance at the school, which most of the main characters at Grant High School attended.
Mayim was no stranger to TV. She was a child actress and got her start as Blossom Russo on the show Blossom. Since she left the series in season three, Mayim went on to star in the popular sitcom The Big Bang Theory, with her role as Amy Farrah Fowler.
Mayim is a proud vegan, and recently opened a vegan restaurant in Downtown Los Angeles with chef Allison Cruddas called Bodhi Bowl. And believe it or not, She also earned a Ph.D. degree in neuroscience back in 2007. Not far off from her character on The Big Bang Theory!
How could we forget Omar, Adrian Lee’s fiancé? Omar was played by actor DeVaughn Nixon. He is introduced in season four and is starts to date one of the main characters, Adrian Lee.
They run into problems when Adrian feels that she has to kiss Amy Juergens’ boyfriend, Ricky Underwood, and when Adrian kisses her friend, Grace Bowman. They get back together by the end of the show and according to the show’s creator Brenda Hampton, the two are happily married.
Before the hit series, DeVaughn played a number of small roles in shows like The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Lizzie McGuire, and Sunny With A Chance. He took a break from acting for a few years to focus on a mortgage broke
