When a high school girl gets pregnant and the boyfriend dies, the sex-ed teacher shows her a film about childbirth and the dangers of venereal disease.

Because a high school girl's parents refuse to discuss sex education (called "personal hygiene" in the film) with her, she gets pregnant by her boyfriend, who conveniently dies. While the box-office records of the 1940s are difficult to research--especially concerning exploitation films, such as this one--this film is generally considered to be the top-grossing picture of 1947 and may well be the top-grossing exploitation picture of all time, with an estimated gross in excess of $100 million. Producer Kroger Babb said that each investor got back $63,000 for each $1000 he invested in the film.
During the original roadshow engagements, some different footage was shown during the "Women Only" and the "Men Only" showings.

EXCELLENT PROMOTION of a Simple Low Budget Movie.
Using carnival-like methods of promotion, combined with word-of-mouth advertising, this movie exploited sex hygiene et cetera with incredible success. When I was 16 (a long time ago) this movie was in re-issue and a group of us drive 50 miles each way to the drive-in theater playing it exclusively. On a work night, suburban Washington DC's biggest drive-in was sold out. It was a "roadshow" one-theater attraction and they came with a carnival-like crew because at some point the film was stopped and they hawked sexual hygiene books to the audience. There was a rumor I'd heard many times over many years that the film contained an actual scene of sexual intercourse (untrue, but worth talking up.) The movie itself was pretty good, and the entire experience, including the carnival-hustle, made an unforgettable experience.

There are many people in the world who collect wacky Nicolas Cage performances, and certainly this one hits all the right notes. It also happens to be a serviceable horror film that is smart and funny as well.
"Mom and Dad" is a nutter of a film that is highly entertaining and knows exactly what it is doing. Brian Taylor definitely knows how to craft insanity and how to make it fun to watch.

Nicolas Cage and Selma Blair star in the dark horror-comedy Mom and Dad. When a mysterious signal is broadcast over telecommunications devises parents are suddenly overcome with a drive to kill their children. Cage and Blair give fairly decent performances, but nothing too impressive. And the script seems a little uneven and unfocused; not quite sure of which story to follow, the community or the family, the parents or the children. The violence can get pretty gritty and shocking, and the black humor too is quite edgy. Mom and Dad is incredibly provocative, but while some of it work other parts don't.
I'm still trying to figure out what I watched, This film is so randomly put together with a over worked backstory added to the simple plot but it works way better than it should of, Nicolas Cage was great and crazy, There's some very dark humour and a few scenes that may be hard for some people to watch, Especially if you're a parent or easily offended, It's shocking, Twisted, Uncomfortable and nothing like you have seen before.
Mom and Dad is so so good. It mashes a story reminiscent of Stephen King's novel cell wherein a cellular plague strikes that causes all who listen to a strange signal turn feral and begin attacking people at random. Mom and Dad is similar, however in this it is parents that turn on their young and attempt to kill them by any means necessary due to witnessing a static transmission. Nicholas Cage gives a performance that is standard for him, it's a good performance but is extremely over the top as usual and he is calmed by Selma Blair's stony, sultry expressions throughout. The only thing I can say about Mom and Dad as a negative is that it has a very unsatisfying and unusual ending.
It's dumb as Hell and probably only got created to facilitate Nic Cage meeting his freakout quota and also what was that ending? But shit, I've had way worse times with a movie. Probably less cathartic to someone who actually likes children or has a healthy relationship with their parents, but for me and mine? Mom and Dad weren't half bad.
