BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. (WWBT) - A 44-year-old North Carolina woman has been arrested for having sex with her married, 25-year-old son.
Melissa 'Missy' Kitchens and her son, Shaun Thomas Pfeiffer, each face a felony charge of incest. Kitchens was arrested on Sept. 7 and her son, from Arden N.C., was arrested a day later.
According to arrest documents, the mother and son had sex in August. Pfeiffer, who is self-employed, also faces charges of indecent liberties with a child, communicating threats and being intoxicated and disruptive.
Pfeiffer is married to Shannon Roman. She lives in the same house with her husband, his mother and Shaun's toddler son.
Even though he's accused of having sex with his mother and molesting a child, Shannon has taken to social media, seemingly in support of her husband, posting, "'When you truly care for someone, their mistakes never change your feelings, because it's the mind that gets angry but the heart still cares."
Pfeiffer's next court date is scheduled for Sept. 30. Kitchens' court date is Sept. 29. Incest in North Carolina carries a sentence of between 10 to 41 months in prison.

According to the FBI, about 450 children are murdered by a parent each year.

A married couple from Indiana is accused of some pretty disturbing allegations of both incest and bestiality.
Keylin Lee Johnson, 52, and Sheila Lynn Johnson, 44, are accused of having sex with their three children, and even their dog.
After a woman told police that two of the three children told them of alleged sexual abuse, police approached the oldest child. That child allegedly told police that their dad told them that “incest was a normal way of life” and “the best way to build a family bond was to have sex with your parents, particularly your mother,” according to WISH-TV in Indianapolis .
“He (the father) also advised it was safer to have sex with people in your own family, rather than strangers,” police claimed the child said. It is unclear how old the children are but the alleged abuse has been going on since 2012.
The eldest child “also indicated that his mother was involved in sexual relations with the family dog,” according to WISH-TV.
Police interviewed the mother, who allegedly admitted to incest, child abuse and an attempt to have sex with the family dog. She said that she and Keylin “would always want to role play and suggested mother-son sex scenarios.” Keylin, meanwhile, admitted to being addicted to pornography and to saving a naked photograph of at least one of his children.
He said, “I am guilty of internet porn and other stuff,” according to WBIW in Lawrence .
The youngest child told police that “both of her parents would do gross things in the home,” and that “she was shown sexual videos and pornography and that her aunt used to bring adult things to a residence in Mooresville and she observed the adults would do sexual things,” according to WISH-TV .
Keylin faces child molestation, incest and possession of child pornography charges while his wife is looking at molestation, incest and bestiality charges. Sheila is crying in her mugshot. It is unclear if either has a lawyer who can speak on their behalf at this time. Both of their trials are set for the summer.

A Tennessee mother was arrested on Wednesday and charged with incest, while her husband was accused of helping her commit the crime.
Barbara Jo Tipton, 33, and her husband Bobby Gene Tipton, 44, were arrested at their home in Erwin after Unicoi County Sheriff's detectives carried out a search warrant on the house.
Barbara, who appears to be a mother of two according to Facebook, was arrested on the more serious charges of incest, statutory rape and soliciting sex from a minor. She is being held at the county jail in lieu of $150,000 bail.
Her husband was also booked into jail on charges of criminal responsibility for an act of incest, meaning he either helped or didn't do enough to prevent the crime from happening. He also faces charges of facilitating statutory rape and domestic violence and is being held on $100,000 bail.
Both are due back in court next week for a hearing.

Further details about what led to the couple's arrest have not been not been released by the Unicoi County Sheriff's Department
No further details about what led to the Tiptons arrest have been released. DailyMail.com reached out to the Unicoi County Sheriff's Department Thursday afternoon for the arrest affidavit but did not immediately receive a response.
According to posts on Facebook, Bobby is from Erwin while his wife is from Wisconsin.
She posted that she 'met someone' in March 2006, and then five months later listed that she had moved to Tennessee.
'He just couldn't get that girl with the hat on, out of his mind...lol!' Barbara wrote in the post.
It's unclear how the two met. Public records indicate that she has been living at the home where she was arrested since she moved to the state.
Three months after she moved to Tennessee, the two got married.

Barbara also marked the birth of two sons on the social media site.
Her first son, who has a different last name than her, was born in April 2000 - two years after she started high school in Boyceville. That child is now 17.
Four years after moving to Tennessee, she marked the birth of another son, who has Tipton for a last name. That son is six years old.
Facebook posts also indicate that Bobby has children from previous relationships, but it's unclear how many.
Other posts point to Barbara being religious. Next to a post about quitting smoking, she said she did it 'with God's help'. She also posted about an event at a local Baptist church.
Barbara lists that she graduated from high school in August 2002 - an unconventional five years after she started. But that may be due to the fact that her older son was born half-way through schooling.
The same months she says she graduated high school, she posted about starting accounting courses at WITC New Richmond. When she moved to Tennessee she started studying to be a licensed practical nurse at the Tennessee College of Applied Technology, graduating in August 2015.
