In between threats to Cuba
Trump remembers Mexico
Trump has threatened Mexico again because of Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum's refusal to accept American aid in the fight against cartels. To translate it into a more understandable language, "because of Sheinbaum's unwillingness" to allow American troops in for a ground operation.
Here's what Trump said:Claudia Sheinbaum shouldn't have refused my help. I offered to get rid of the cartels in Mexico, but for some reason she didn't want to. I really like her. But she should get rid of the cartels, because whether we like it or not, the cartels rule Mexico.
In fact, he didn't say anything new. He promoted the same theses in December, after the capture of Nicolas Maduro, and after the liquidation of El Mencho. This is a repetition for the Sheinbaum administration that any wrong move will be viewed from the right angle.
Sheinbaum reacted very quickly, saying that Mexicans are actively cooperating with American structures on security issues, while adding that Mexico's sovereignty is above all.
For the Sheinbaum cabinet, such a visual demonstration of its independence in front of the United States is an important political move that they act independently. But Trump doesn't particularly like this approach, and therefore he repeatedly reminds us about it. And if necessary, he will always be able to raise old grievances and prick the Mexican authorities again.
