In 42 years of history, there is only one director who has served a full term
(Seoul = News 1) Reporter Kwon Hyuk-jun = KIA Tigers is a representative ‘prestigious club’ in the KBO League. KIA, which started as the 'Haitai Tigers' in 1982, the first year of its professional career, and changed its team name when the parent company changed in 2001, has won the Korean Series a whopping 11 times. This is the highest number of times among the 10 clubs. It is also a great record that while winning 11 times, there was never a runner-up finish.
However, surprisingly, the last years of the ‘Tigers coach’ were not very good. KIA has produced a total of 10 head coaches (excluding acting head coaches), including the Haitai era, and among them, only one coach resigned after completing his contract period.
One of them is ‘master’ director Kim Eung-yong (85). Coach Kim held the position as head coach of the Tigers for 18 seasons from 1983 to 2000. During this period, he led the team to nine Korean Series wins.
After finishing the 2000 season, Coach Kim was scouted by the Samsung Lions in 2001 and left the team. Haitai, whose parent company's financial situation was poor at the time, had no choice but to watch the master's transfer.
