Implementation of the MRV system in the energy sector - the example of Morocco

The members of the Uzbekistan delegation met with the representatives of the Department of Energy and Statistics of the Ministry of Energy and Sustainable Development, which is responsible for collecting statistical data of the MRV system, in Rabat.

At the meeting, the representatives of the Ministry of Energy and Sustainable Development made a presentation on the systematization and digitization of the collection of statistical data on greenhouse gases (GHG) related to energy and industry, their processing, analysis, and internal verification of the inventory.

In this regard, the Moroccan National greenhouse gas inventory system (SNI-GES), which includes a database and registry of GHG inventory, implemented in 2015, and its activities were introduced.

Furthermore, the calculation of GHG emissions within the SNI-GES system is carried out based on the methodology developed by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). In this process, the importance of transitioning from the old production-based method to the new consumption-based method was highlighted.

During the meeting, the parties discussed projects aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions in Morocco’s energy sector, including increasing the share of renewable energy sources in energy production, and the use of energy-efficient technologies.

At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to establish cooperation in the field of greenhouse gas emissions inventory implementation in the energy sector.
