I'm going to delete my Whatsapp Account no matter what!
Shoban ChiddarthWhy will I delete Whatsapp and switch to Telegram?
Whatsapp has a new privacy policy if you didn't know. You can read about that here.
According to the new policy, Whatsapp will collect your Device ID, User ID, Advertising Data, Purchase History, Coarse Location, Phone Number, Email Address, Contacts, Product Interaction, and etc... as said here
Which makes whatsapp the second most user data collecting app. The first is Facebook Messenger, anyway both are from the same company.
This is not fair, I don't wish to give away my personal data which is not necessary for whatsapp to work.
Yes, whatsapp needs basic information like Phone number, recovery email, profile picture, bio, and etc but it doesn't make sense to collect every other data that it doesn't needs to run.
This kills our privacy.

This is what is exactly going to happen
I don't want to share my personal data to anyone. I really care about my privacy.
I suggest everyone of you to do the same and switch to telegram because it's more focused on privacy and is totally better than whatsapp. Groups have admins with different rights, there is an API for developers, bots can be created to manage businesses and you can login with more than one device and a lot more. Also telegram is more private and secure. You no need to trust me, read their policies and what everyone else says.
There is a fact that, everyone in India is using whatsapp, for the only reason that everyone else is using. So think of it, if everyone of us just switch to telegram and delete whatsapp, everyone else will switch. And we all will have more privacy.
This is definitely a trap to grab our personal data and use it for stuff like marketing and advertising and to sell it to others. This might also be one of their ways to earn money.
So consider, if you are concerned about your user data and you don't want marketing giants to have it to send you promotions, then you shouldn't click on that "agree" button and instead click on "not now". But if you didn't click on agree within Feb 8, your account will be deleted.
And if you wish to share your personal data that can be used to track you, advertise you and send you promotions. I personally would recommend deleting your account and switching to telegram but it's your wish.
I will delete my account on Feb 7 to protect🛡️my privacy no matter what and you can always catch me on telegram.
How does Google protect your privacy
And moreover, I would like to talk on another thing. In addition to this situation, a lot of people have said that not only WhatsApp, but also Google and all other companies do that. But it's not.
Google doesn't sell your data to advertisers, Google is the advertiser.
Then how can it be safe?
Google shows ads in its platforms like Adsense, Youtube, Blogger and etc based on your activity on Google.
When you use Google products, Google saves your history and activity to make ads relevant to you. For example, if you search for design related stuff, Google will know that you are a designer and may show you an add related to designing like design products like Adobe XD or any other software.
Note that, when Adobe needs to sell its software to you and uses Google ads, Adobe can't see your personal information like name and email address but can only know that a user has seen my ad or I got a customer through Google ads. So your data is still safe with Google as it doesn't go to the hands of marketers (Google is the marketer but has your info safe).
You can learn more how Google makes money from ads here.
Whatever, I don't like to be monitored and tracked
Google still gives you an option to turn it off. From your account, you can turn off location history, web activity and YouTube activity in privacy section if you don't want to be tracked.
But note that it doesn't reduce the number of ads you see and it only makes ads irrelevant to you. Meaning, if you are working on some software development, and you look up some code examples from some website, you get ads like this
even if you are a man.
So, anyways, you will still get adds from google but you can make them relevant to you by turning them on.
On my personal experiences, I have turned on a type of Google tracking in my settings and all the ads I got till date are relevant to me and I got benefitted from them.
Moreover, WhatsApp is a messaging app than a search engine, which means we also have private chats which we don't need to disclose it to others. So imagine, you are chatting with your family in a group chat about your next motorcycle purchase (which you have it as a secret and didn't want to tell anyone) and the next day you see an add showing some motorcycles 🏍️ from some company. It would feel like someone standing behind you all the time and giving all your information to someone right?
It doesn't make sense to show you ads on your private chats, and this makes clear that why Google makes more sense than WhatsApp. So please stop comparing Google here.
