Job Ideas

Below is a list of job ideas for remote workers and digital nomads. Be sure to check back often for an expanded list which we update as often as possible.

Ad Management

A great skill to learn is how online ads work. This ranges from social media ads such as Facebook Ads and Instagram Ads.

You can also learn how to manage postings on classified websites such as Craigslist or manage property listings on websites such as Airbnb.

You will need to learn how to create these ads and optimize them so that they increase traffic toward the product or service. If you become an expert at ad management, this will likely be a very lucrative career choice.

Affiliate Marketing

Whether you want to promote digital products, services, or physical products, you can find a way to earn a commission from your sales.

You can share your affiliate links through blogs, video channels, podcasts, or even by simply texting it to your friends - just make sure you let them know that it is an affiliate link.

Affiliate marketing is simple to start, though requires dedication to build traffic to your affiliate links and land sales. If successful, this can be one of the most profitable streams of income as a remote worker.

Amazon FBA

Amazon FBA (Fulfillment by Amazon) is a popular eCommerce option. With Amazon FBA, you will have to choose a product and pay for storage space at one of Amazon’s warehouses.

All you have to do is create an online store and promote your products. Once they are ordered, Amazon will handle shipping, inventory replenishment, and customer service.

Book Publishing

Whether you wish to author your own books or hire ghostwriters to write on topics, book publishing is a great option for working remotely.

The most popular avenue for publishing books remains Kindle Direct Publishing by Amazon. We also recommend publishing your books on as many platforms as you see fit. You can use services such as Gumroad and Payhip to sell your ebooks.

And you can use services such as ACX to record and sell audiobook versions of your books.

Blogging

There are several ways to make money through blogging. You can promote products and services through affiliate marketing (as mentioned above).

If your blog is accumulating a lot of web traffic, you can also implement ads to the blog to monetize it. Or you can charge a subscription fee for your readers to get premium content. If you become an expert blogger you can also offer your writing services to other blogs.

Content Writing

As mentioned above, an expert blogger may be hired for their writing services. But even if you do not become an expert blogger, you can make a living through content writing.

Content writing can range from writing blog posts for companies, ghostwriting ebooks, writing company press releases, and writing case studies.

Technical writing is also a lucrative form of writing. Many technical writing opportunities can be found online.

Copywriting

Copywriting has always been a popular option for professional writers. You can write copy for websites and for social media posts.

You can also work as an email marketing copywriter and sell products and services or promote events through emails. You may even be hired to write product descriptions.

Who knows? As a copywriter, you may write a compelling description for the Kindle Publisher wanting to make sure Amazon customers buy their books!

Courses

The internet is rapidly replacing traditional avenues for education. Online courses are a great option for earning income remotely.

What can you teach? Absolutely anything. If you have a skill and there’s a market for it, you should teach it. Whether that is creative writing, HTML 5, playing guitar, learning a language, or dancing, you can create an online course around it.

This is also a great option for passive income. Once you have created your course, all you have to do is promote it and get students. We suggest going to websites like Udemy and Skillshare and take a few courses yourself to see how they are designed; this will give you a better idea for creating your own course.

Teaching Languages

Many expatriates use teaching a language as their way of sustaining their life abroad. But digital nomads and stay-at-home remote workers can also use their language skills to earn an income.

There is a demand for others to learn a second language and you can create your own classes and teach through a video calling service such as Skype or Zoom. Or you can look for a job among numerous companies that are hiring language teachers.

Dropshipping

eCommerce has always been a great method for making money online. But eCommerce is, of course, not entirely an online-based business.

After all, you need a physical space to hold your inventory. And you’ll need to occasionally go to the post office to ship your products.

Luckily, there’s an alternative for the remote worker. Dropshipping also requires you to run an online store, but you do not have to hold inventory or ship the products when they are ordered.

All you have to do is set up a store, add a catalog and the manufacturer will handle the inventory and shipping. You’ve got to handle customer service and marketing as well. Dropshipping has become a very popular income avenue for remote workers and digital nomad.

Podcasting/Video Creation

Two other popular forms of content creation are podcasting and creating videos. These are popular opportunities for earning an income through the internet.

They are, however, very competitive and time-consuming. They are more challenging than making a living off writing. If you do venture into podcasting and/or video creation, you will need to become popular in order to make money off ads.

Other ways to monetize your content is to sell merchandise or perform live shows - though these will only happen if you have a large following. If this greatly interests you, follow your favorite podcasters and video creators and learn about how they became successful.

Translation, Transcription, Captioning, and Subtitling

If you are fluent in more than one language, you can earn money by translating written content. This can range from blog posts to ebooks to legal documents. You can offer your services as a freelancer or business owner or find a remote translation job.

But if written content is not your thing, you can subtitle videos and even feature films! We suggest mastering subtitling software and then offering your services. You can also apply to be a subtitler for a subtitling company.

If you are only fluent in one language, you do not have to worry. You can transcribe audio by listening to it and then writing the text out. Or if you want to stick to videos, you can create captions - which are subtitles in the same language and are often targeted toward the deaf or hard of hearing.

Selling Merchandise

You can also sell custom merchandise online. Like Amazon FBA and Dropshipping, you do not have to worry about inventory and shipping.

There are many companies that allow you to create products with your custom designs. These companies also let you set up your online store. Once a customer orders, the manufacturer will create the product and then ship it to the customer.

All you have to do is design the products and promote your online store.
