This week the IRS updated its “ mission-critical website .” During the COVID-19 pandemic, the IRS has had to curtail some operations due to COVID-19 but its “mission-critical functions”, including accepting tax returns and sending refunds, continue. The website has been updated to identify what functions are and are not currently running. IR-2024-05, Jan. 9, 2024 — The Internal Revenue Service and the Security Summit partners today alerted tax professionals to watch out for a new round of filing season-related email schemes where cybercriminals pose as potential clients. The IRS announced on April 22 nd the launch of the IRS’ “Get My Payment” website. The website which is similar to the IRS’ “Where’s My Refund?” website permits taxpayers to check the date they can expect to receive their economic impact payment. The website also provides taxpayers the ability to update their direct deposit. Jan. 10, 2024 — IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel today updated the Senate Finance Committee on the agency’s efforts to protect honest taxpayers and combat fraud in the Employee Retention Credit (ERC) program.
