IPhone Minecraft Client Posted, Pulled

If you keep a close eye on the App Store (or have an RSS feed that you follow), you might have noticed an app called Minecrafted there on a Monday morning. It's a Minecraft client for iOS and is a new version of the extremely popular indie game that can run on an iPhone and can connect to real Minecraft servers. But before you download it, it's not that fast -- the app was removed from the App Store already, and if you try to find it on the US store, you'll see an error message.

So what's the deal? TUAW reached out to the creator of the app, Trevor Wilkin, and Wilkin told us that his original idea was to develop the client, submit it to Apple and then obtain an official approval from the creators of Minecraft before putting it live. Apple threw it live immediately, however it took a while before it went live, and Wilkin claims that he "pretty pretty freaked out and had to get it removed as fast as I could." MINECRAFT SERVER LIST He doesn't know whether the app is genuine or not. It's entirely original, according to the description, but probably he reverse-engineered a few things, because it appears to be compatible with the current servers and versions of the game.

To us, Wilkin sounds innocent enough. He says that Wilkin has "no desire to harm the brand and only wanted to launch an effective tool. I'm still hoping to figure out a solution that doesn't put a foot on anyone's toes." We hope that too. having Minecraft up and running officially on iOS would be a nice bonus for both iPhone users and fans of the immensely popular game.
