The Indian Premier League (also known as the IPL) is a Twenty20 cricket tournament that is organised by the IPL Governing Council under the supervision of the Board of Control for Cricket in India. The IPL comprises eight teams with names based on 8 distinct Indian cities. BCCI founded the league in 2007. It is usually held between March and May each year.

Mumbai Indians are the most successful IPL team to have won five tournaments. Then comes Chennai Super Kings, which has been awarded four IPL titles.

2008 - Rajasthan Royals

Shane Warne led the team to victory over CSK in the first edition. The team was rounded out by Shane Watson, Graeme Smith and Yusuf Pathan. When they played the final against CSK, Yusuf Pathan contributed to both bowling and batting and played in the most important match ever in his career. He took 3 wickets that were not more than a bowl, and scored 56 runs out of 39.

2009 - Deccan Chargers

Adam Gilchrist was the team's leader. Pragyan Ojha was a crucial player for the team with 18 wickets taken using the left-hand spin bowling. Adam Gilchrist was able to score 495 runs over 16 games and finished second on the top ten run scorers in the 2009 IPL after Mathew Hayden.

2010 - Chennai Super Kings

MS Dhoni won the trophy along with team members like Albie Morkel and Mathew Hayden in their final match against Sachin Tendulkar's Mumbai Indians. Suresh Raina was the top player during the entire batting of the team and his 57 not out cleared CSK's path to victory in the final against the Mumbai Indians. 2011 - Chennai Super Kings

CSK was the first IPL side to defeat RCB in back-to-back finals. Mr Cricket and Michael Hussey played significant innings during the IPL 2011 tournament. Murali Vijay's and Hussey's opening partnership for 159-runs against RCB was the sole motive for CSK to win the title.

2012 - Kolkata Knight Riders

KKR defeated the defending champions Chennai Super Kings in the final. Bisla accepted the responsibility of chasing , and responded with a fearless innings of 89 in 48 balls after the KKR batsman left with the unsettling job of chasing 190 throughout the final match. Even Suresh Raina's 73 from 38 didn't prevent Kolkata Knight Riders from winning.

2013 - Mumbai Indians

Led by Rohit Sharma, with players like Lasith Malinga Kieron Pollard and Mitchell Johnson, MI defeated CSK in the finals. The IPL tournament saw a balanced team. Throughout the match, Mitchell Johnson, Kieron and Lasith Pollard complemented each the other.

2014 - Kolkata Knight Riders

KKR was the 2nd team to win the IPL trophy twice. Manish Pandey, who allowed KKR chase 199 runs overall was the hero of the 2014 IPL final. Robin Uthappa of KKR won the orange cap by scoring 660 runs scored in 16 innings, and Pandey scored 94 runs out of 50.

2015 - Mumbai Indians

The finals were won by great players such as Ambati Rayadu, Rohit Sharma, Lasithmalinga, Simmons, Kieron Pollard, and Lasith Malinga. Mumbai Indians were the third team to win the IPL season more than once after CSK. The trophy was awarded thanks to the unity of the players. The bowling team's Lasith Malinga took 24 wickets. This match was led by Slingamalinga. Two additional wickets taken by Lasith Malinga were snatched by Dwayne Bravo.

2016 - Sunrisers Hyderabad

The team defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by just 8 runs. As a captain, David Warner managed the team well. The duo of Virat Kohli and Ab de Villiers is what made IPL 2016 so memorable. Virat was part of 16 innings, scoring 7 half-centuries as well as 4 centuries, and became the winner of the orange cap for the season.

2017 - Mumbai Indians

MI set a record by being the first team to win more then twice. They won the first time in 2013 and again in 2015. The championship was won against the Rising Pune Supergiants with just one run. As captain of the Mumbai Indians, Rohit Sharma's performance was outstanding.

2018 - Chennai Super Kings

CSK was the second team to win more than two awards, alongside veterans like Shane Watson, Shane Rayadu and Dhoni. Dhoni did a great job and had the most impressive finishes in games. Their bowling squad, which included Dwanye Bravo and MS Dhoni was the main reason for their success.

2019 - Mumbai Indians

MI was again matched against Chennai Super Kings in the finals. The final game was the result in Mumbai Indians becoming the champions for the 4th time. The final result was based on the previous bowl. This meant that MI became the most victorious team in IPL history, after winning the 4th IPL title.

2020 - Mumbai Indians

In IPL 2020, Mumbai Indians took home the IPL title for the second time and for the fifth time. It was a match between Mi and Delhi Capitals. MI won the IPL trophy by five wickets. This year was also the year that the Paytm Fairplay Award was also presented to Mumbai Indians.

2021 - Chennai Super Kings

CSK beat KKR by 27 runs on 15 October 2021. CSK triumphed in the final match in Dubai with 192 run and just 3 wickets. They beat KKR by 27 runs. Following their victory in 2021, CSK climbed to 4th place in IPL. Harshal Patel, RCB, became the purple cap holder. Ruturaj Gaikwad, IPL's most junior player, was awarded the IPL orange cups award.

2022 - Gujarat Titans

The final game of IPL 2022 took place between Gujarat Titans (qualifier 1) and Rajasthan Royals (2qualifier 2) on the 29th of May, 2022. GT took the title by seven wickets. Jos Buttler scored 863 runs in 17 matches, which included four hundred runs and four fiveties. This is the maximum. In the IPL 2022 tournament, Rajasthan Royals, Lucknow Super Giants, Gujarat Titans and Royal challengers Bangalore were all included. Gujarat Titans (GT) became the first team to go first by scoring 20 points. The team played 14 matches, and they won 10 out of them.
