STAR SAND

THE LOCATION

Though the location of the story itself is “a remote island far from the field of battle,” the film was shot on Iejima, an island that was totally destroyed by bombing in 1945. It is in the large cave at Iejima that the story of the two deserters and the girl who looks after them unfolds.

Thanks to special permission given to the production by the island and the magnanimous support of the people living there, STAR SAND was able to be made in a striking and realistic atmosphere. This support itself symbolizes the sincere and heartfelt wishes of the people of Iejima for peace and a future without violence.
