III. 32. Zarathustra
Bogdan Georgievich LisitsaZarathushtra is the founder of Zoroastrianism, a priest, and the author of the Avesta. Zarathustra is the prophet Zechariah, one of the twelve Old Testament "minor" prophets. He was born during the Babylonian captivity in Atropatene, on the territory of present-day Azerbaijan. In his sermons, Zarathustra castigates his opponents, the supporters of the old Aryan religion, which deified the forces of nature, and the orgiastic cult of haoma. Zarathustra separated good and evil as two originally existing natures in the world, having nothing in common with each other, and called for following good and rejecting evil. Zarathustra reformed the Iranian religion, giving it an abstract character, which amazed even classical writers. The main deities of the Zoroastrian pantheon began to represent the personification of abstract ideas, devoid of flesh. The followers of Zarathustra expected the coming of Saoshyant-Savior. In this, the prophet Zechariah is close to Zarathustra. The book of the prophet Zechariah is the most messianic, the most apocalyptic and eschatological of all the books of the Old Testament. Because of its clear messianic predictions, this book is widely quoted by the authors of the Gospel. There are more than 40 references and allusions to this prophet in the Gospel.
