"I was immature. It's burdensome to take a break now."

“I was immature. But now it’s burdensome to take a break.”

Kiwoom Heroes' Byeong Sang-kwon was expected to be a promising player who could become the 'second Seo Geon-chang'. Although he was not selected in the rookie draft, his batting talent was so good that he wore the Heroes' uniform as a developing player in 2018. Seo Geon-chang also started out as a reported player and grew into the league's best star.

According to his assessment, he had the qualities to succeed in batting. He received quite a few opportunities in the 2020 and 2021 seasons. Thanks to that, I was able to serve in the military at Sangmu, and after completing my military service, I returned to Kiwoom and am preparing for the 2024 season.

A lot has changed. He was a junior by a long time before he went to the military, but now there are many juniors. He faced stiff competition in the outfield. Although Lee Jeong-hoo (San Francisco) left, a new star named Lee Joo-hyung emerged. Kiwoom has foreign player Dawson as an outfielder. Veterans Lee Yong-gyu, Lee Hyeong-jong, and Lim Byeong-wook are also present.

So I can't rest. Sang-kwon Byeon goes to Gocheok Sky Dome almost every day this winter and works out. It's not something someone tells you to do. Sang-kwon Byun said, "It's burdensome to rest. I can't rest comfortably. I've been working out ever since I went to the Wonju finishing training last year."

Looking back on his life at Sangmu, Byeon Sang-kwon said, "I was assessed as lacking in defense, so I asked players who were good at defense hard, trained hard, and worked hard to improve. I think that you can only become a first-team player if defense is the basic. When it comes to batting, "I created my own zone and trained so that I could produce results without missing any balls that came into it. Before, when I got to 2S, I was in a hurry, but now I'm focusing on how to deal with it," he explained.

Regarding the fierce competition for survival, Sang-kwon Byeon emphasized, "Competition is natural and something that must always be done. I think that if I do what I do well, the opportunity will come someday. I will not miss that opportunity." Regarding being eliminated from the first camp in Arizona, USA, he proudly said, "I will do my best with the thought that if I prepare well anywhere, I can join the second camp in Taiwan."

Byeon Sang-kwon's last words were, "Before I went to the military, I was immature. It was a time when I was full of confidence only in words. Now, I want to train silently and show it through action," and added, "I was so excited to be included in the opening entry for the 2021 season. On my birthday (April 4th) I remember the coach asking me what kind of gift I wanted to receive, and I said, 'Please send me to a game.' That day, all I did was throw a base hit and cause an accident. I felt that it wasn't just about confidence. Now that I've completed my military service, I have nowhere else to run. Oh, the first half of my life is over. . The second half is starting. I want to do well so that there are no regrets. I want to become a player who can instill anticipation at important moments," he said confidently.
