I Love Write Notes in English More Than in Russian
@y9san9As time goes, I start to use English more and more. And even though, at that point I still make a lot of mistakes when I write in English. I didn't find them until I read the text after a while. It is kinda like when you start programming and you can't read your own programs after half a year passed. Same is going on with my English. But comparing to programming, where I think I reached plato, I still find my texts to be pretty low quality after a while.
Nevertheless, for a few months I took notes only in English. I started to prepare for a talk in English (it's technical talk for a conference). And I ran across a strange feeling. But before I will talk about this feeling, let me give a little look back. It's not my first try to start writing notes in English, but I think it's the first successfull one.
When I tried to start writing in English before, I always had this feeling that those notes are strange, I can't return to them, I can't read them, I don't want to write them, because I was too limited in my expressions in English. And I just was instantly bored when tried to write something in English, because it was so much work for my brain.
But right now I feel the opposite. I don't know how it happened, but I feel that I can't write my notes in Russian. It's strange, because I feel the same thing I felt with English. My brain needs to work really hard to write something in Russian and English became my default language for writing. I started to think directly in English when I write notes and switching to Russian requires extra effort.
I never ever learned any grammar and never learned English in general (with purpose of learning English). I think it's noticeable. I consume a lot of content in English and this all might be a side effect from this content. But I didn't see any improvements on the ability to form new sentences while watching more and more content. I did see those improvements just when I switched to English as my primary language for note taking.
On the one hand, I feel it's a bit strange. On the other hand, I feel how I can more easily express myself, and my thoughts go faster and faster in English as time goes. That really helps me to learn the language. And I think this method is incredible to learn new languages by simply writing notes in that languages.
