This book is a rock n roll ride into the past with an entertaining spin on favorite songs from the 70s and 80s. Fill in the lyrics, learn about the songs, and be amused by a combo of book titles and songs. I grew up listening to this music and it brought back good memories. If you like 70s and 80s rock and roll and are looking for a joyride into the past, I Love Big Books and I Cannot Lie is for you.
Who knew there were so many fun and fascinating connections between popular music and popular verse? If you grew up singing along to the music of the 70s and 80s and even the remakes beyond you will love this book. A fabulous celebration of pop culture.
What a fun book to pass the time with! The "crossroads" puzzles were my favorite. This is unlike any book I've seen before, with its combination of music and literature. I ordered another copy for my sister who was a teenager in the 80s.
As a trivia and 80's music fan, I appreciate this mix with the topic of books (another thing I'm a fan of). A lot of research and creativity went into this beautifully designed book. Very clever!
Tamara Dever wrote a creative, quirky, and immensely fun activity book for lovers of books and 70s and 80s hit songs. I Like Big Books and I Cannot Lie would be a perfect gift. I can imagine individuals and couples having hours of fun and lots of laughs while filling in the pages of this book and reading the silly, book-themed rewrites of many beloved hit songs of the past. I especially enjoyed looking up each song mentioned and watching the original music videos of them on YouTube. The section I liked filling in the most was the “We Go Together” section. I did really well with those. I was also grateful for an answer key at the end of the book. The reason I am giving this book four stars is because I was never able to find the YouTube channel mentioned in the introduction of the book. Dever writes, “…visit ILikeBigBooks.com for a link to our YouTube channel featuring a playlist with the songs in the order they appear in this book.” I wish this link was provided to the readers so that it was easy to find. Nevertheless, I Like Big Books and I Cannot Lie was an excellent and entertaining read.
I feel like I'd get along very well with the author. I enjoyed her quizzes and anecdotes quite a lot, nodding in agreement throughout her fun book that incorporates so many song lyrics, titles, and groups. I was immediately back in the 80's, enjoying "new" music and still hearing great stuff that was still circulating from the 70's. Tamara Dever is clearly a fan of music, which I appreciate very much. While much of the book made me smile, I really feel like I'd enjoy it more if I had it sitting out on a coffee table so it could be opened and shared with company, so that's my recommendation. It's a quick flip-through book with destination pages rather than a read-from-front-to-back type of book, so if you look at it from that perspective, I think you'll enjoy!
This book has a little bit of everything for those who love trivia, sprinkles of humor, and of course a lot of pop culture. If you’re looking for a bit of a challenge for yourself, maybe perhaps a way to spice up a book club during quarantine or just for some fun, this is a fabulous book for you! It’s full of fun prompts for games like the logical song where the assumption is the singer is an author and you fill in the blanks of the scenarios with what they might do. The hint is that they’re song titles. This is perfect for those who really have a mashup love of reading and music. Several of them were quite cute, and fit perfectly! I’ll fully admit that when the rewrites of some of the songs came by to include a more “bookish” theme, I sang them out loud! Ok, so maybe not in the right tune, but still! Oddly enough they’ll probably be lyrics I sing when the songs come on Spotify next time too! The bits of trivia throughout are pretty cool and not something I would have actively looked for otherwise, so that’s pretty awesome. I loved the overall premise of the book and the fact that it boosted a lot of positivity and happy stuff. As someone who loves a good mix of books and music, this will be a book I come back to often. It’s a fabulous read!
This is a book would of special interest for 70’s and 80’s music fans. It is full of humorous takes on popular music with references to well-known books. There are various puzzles, riddles and trivia questions that will keep the reader interested. I believe the author wrote this for a certain audience and the appeal to that audience would be high. Its pages are colorfully laid out and the text is engaging. For a music fans, this would make fun gift or party game activity.
