I Hate Umbridge More Than Voldemort
I Hate Umbridge More Than Voldemort
I mean its safe to say everyone hates Umbridge ( including me, with a burning passion) , shes probably one of the most despised characters in the books, sometimes more so than Voldemort, but why is it that Voldemort, a psychopathic power hungry murderer is less hated.
Ya I hated Umbridge more than Voldemort. I mean Voldemort did try and kill Harry and stuff and he killed a bunch of other people and his parents, but everytime Umbridge appeared innthe book, I wanted to like kill and strangle her!
Why is Umbridge worse than Voldemort? I mean, Voldemort. No way is umbridge (who's your average annoying teacher at high school) worse than voldemort. First, here are ways that Voldemort and umbridge are similar: - they both discriminate against halfbreeds like werewolves, giants and centaurs. - the both hate muggles and muggleborns.
Voldemort's presence meant death and destruction. On the other hand, Umbridge brought cruelty and sadism. But how come the professor is hated more by us fans, who never killed anyone, let alone ...
Umbridge is more realistic villain - a corrupt authority figure appointed by a corrupt politician. As readers, we see this villain more time (pagewise) than Voldemort or Bellatrix.
Umbridge's 'Desire to Control, to Punish' What makes Umbridge so evil that King would compare her to Hannibal Lecter, the man widely considered the greatest villain of all time? I asked myself this question, and I believe the answer lies in the fact that Dolores Umbridge is so real —and in more ways than one.
Why Do We All Hate Umbridge? by Mikaela Renshaw · November 26, 2017 Umbridge is not only the most hated Harry Potter character but also one of the most hated literary characters in general. But why? What is it about Umbridge that makes her so despised, even more so than characters such as Voldemort or Fenrir Greyback?
Also, while Voldemort is the overall evil in the books, his interactions with Harry (and thus the audience) are quite minimal. Umbridge makes Harry's life miserable for about a year straight. We get to know Umbridge's evil way better than Voldemort.
This Plan B thesis explores the question: Why do audience members detest Dolores Umbridge so much? Dolores Umbridge is an incredibly hated woman in the Harry Potter series who has attracted attention from audiences, but Umbridge has not been studied fully by scholarship. When scholars do discuss Umbridge, they typically focus on her cruelty while ignoring her other characteristics. Looking at ...
Umbridge is much more personally evil than Voldemort. Voldermort (unless you're in his line of view) isn't really a problem beyond the take over the magical world plot. To someone like Seamus voldemort didn't do much to him. Umbridge is less evil, sure, but her goals and only motivation is to make people suffer. Although she is less evil.
Six villains. One dark era of Hogwarts. From Voldemort's return to Umbridge's cruelty, these characters made Harry Potter darker, scarier, and unforgettable. Love them or hate them—you'll never...
I think one of the reasons Umbridge is so easy to hate is because she attempted to create the perception that she was not evil. Voldemort was a discriminatory murderer who, after he was powerful enough, never really pretended to be anything different than a wizard who wanted to purge the world of those he didn't approve of.
Voldemort, on the other hand, was an insane power-hungry idealist (was he, though?) that only few people have come into contact with. Hence we cannot relate and so hate him less than Umbridge.
Umbridge is hated more because she is more "real", by that, I mean to say everyone has had an experience with someone in real life who acted like the Umbridge character. Any pretentious, "I work in an government or school admin position which means I have more power than you", type of person.
I think Umbridge is a more demential evil than Voldemort. Voldemort has layers, but overall his actions are pretty 2+2=4…While Umbridge skates a line of self righteousness and making your life a personal hell with a dash of tea cozies and kittens on the side.
Umbridge is a more realistic character than Voldemort, so people feel her kind of evil more than Voldemort's. Not many people have homicidal maniacs like Voldemort in their life, but Umbridge is a character archetype that everyone knows.
The problem with Umbridge is that she embodies one of the worst types of people: someone with a modicum of power who chooses to abuse that power for personal gain and ambition rather than to help others.
Recent Changes ALL POSTS Godzillavkk·5/22/2020in Fan Theories Theory on why Umbridge is often more hated than Voldemort Voldemort might be our big bad, but if you stop and think about him as a character, you'll quickly find that he's little more than a generic "I'm evil" bad guy. There's nothing complex about him, in my opinion at least.
So, I assume that people hate Umbridge more than Voldemort because Umbridge is a more relatable villain, we see her as someone we could meet any day (Albeit to a less cruel degree (I hope (You can nest brackets apparently))). I'm sure all of us have met a teacher who treats us unfairly, and punishes for things we really have not deserved.
What I don't understand is Bellatrix is more sadistic than her, but Bellatrix has more fans than her. Umbridge is just hated all around. She isn't as evil as Voldemort but most people hate Umbridge more than Voldemort. Her personality isn't as insufferable as Lucius, but Lucius isn't as hated as Umbridge. I hate Umbridge too, but I can't pin ...
Why do we Potterheads hate Umbridge more than Voldemort? "Progress for the sake of progress must be discouraged. Let us preserve what must be preserved, perfect what can be perfected and prune practices that ought to be prohibited." Remember these words by the despicable, pestilential 'toad' we have in Potter-verse?
We can all agree she was an awful person in pretty much every way, but most of the other villains (some who were objectively worse than Umbridge, like Voldemort and Bellatrix) have solid fanbases. There must be a reason why Umbridge is hated a lot more than these conventionally more 'evil' villains. Why do you think she's so hated?
You likely had encountered that in real life. That's why Umbridge is more hated. You haven't and most likely will never have to deal with a Voldemort. But you had to put up with an Umbridge. So all of this real life negative feelings#, hate, frustration, helplessness before unreasonable authority figure get projected on that fictional character.
If Voldemort were like an assassin come to kill you, Umbridge would be like your best friend putting you in a surprise chokehold to make it easier for the assassin.
Umbridge is evil. Anyone who has read the books, seen the movies, or come within touching distance of a Potterhead knows this. Despite this community hatred for Umbridge, I've often questioned exactly what makes her so awful. Yes, she's mean and doesn't like our lord and saviour McGonagall, but neither does Snape and people still apologise for his actions for some reason. So why is she ...
even more evident. Later, during the Voldemort controlled regime, she became a member of the
It's similar to why people hate Ramsey Bolton more than his father in GOT. Voldemort and Roose Bolton are both horrible people that do extremely violent and cruel things; however, they both use this violence and cruelty as a means to an end. For Umbridge and Ramsey, the violence and cruelty is the end.
I cannot help but feel that Umbridge is developed far better as a villain than Voldemort is. I absolutely despise her, yet while I know Voldemort is a villain, it just does not feel the same. Anyone else feel this way? Archived post. New comments cannot be posted and votes cannot be cast. Share Sort by: Best Open comment sort options Best Top ...
Voldemort and Bellatrix always came across like cartoon villains, but Umbridge really hits close to home. Heck, I hate Fudge more than I hate the various Death Eaters for this very reason.
For many Umbridge is hateable because she feels like a real world, power hungry authority figure we all hate in real life. She's an amazing antagonist because she makes us viscerally hate her more.
Voldemort atleast has a reason for being evil (while as far as I know umbridge is just mean for no reason) Voldemort just tried to kill Harry (while umbridge made him write in his own blood "you must not tell lies" even when Harry was telling the truth which is probably more painful than killing someone with Avada kedavra.
Some people hate Umbridge more because it feels more personal. Most of us have met a teacher like that, but very few have friends or family who are victims of genocidal murderer. Moreover, most of Voldemort's atrocities are not directly depicted, which lessen the impact.
A lot of people have already mentioned that Umbridge, Lockhart, Snape and the Dursleys are more recognisable than Voldemort but an additional reason is that those four act like they're the good guys.
She inspires more hatred than Voldemort. For this list, we'll be going over the actions and personal defects in Dolores Umbridge that inspire hatred from "Harry Potter" characters and fans alike.
Human nature shown through studies is that we hate hypocrites more than those who are straightforwardly doing awful things, and I think Umbridge's character plays with these kinds of feelings.
Yeah i hated umbridge more than voldemort or anyone. voldemort i admired like grindelwald. almost romantically. but nah umbridge was hell because to me she was more of a threat to hogwarts than voldemort ever was. i mean not physically but the spirit of hogwarts was really on the ropes when that toad took over.
I've been thinking about the villians in Harry Potter recently and decided to do a small video essay answering the questions: "Why do we hate Dolores Umbridg...
Idk if this question was posted here but i was really curious lol. I, myself, hate umbridge more than voldemort, but i wanted to know the reasons and…
Basically, Voldemort is the mountain you came to climb, Umbridge is that pebble in your shoe that keeps digging into your foot that shouldn't be there. That's why people hate her.
Arguably more hated and more dangerous than Voldemort himself, there are many reasons why Dolores Umbridge is the most hated Harry Potter character.
Today, we're diving deep into a character analysis of one of the most despised figures in the wizarding world. Voldemort's out here trying to take over the w...
Rowling's disdain for Umbridge is rooted in real-life experiences, making her aversion to the character more than just fictional sentiment. This information was revealed in a 1,700-word essay published over ten years ago on Pottermore, a fan-centric platform dedicated to the Harry Potter Universe.
Dolores Umbridge is already one of the most hated characters in Harry Potter, but we think she actually worsened as the series progressed.
Whereas Voldemort is a serial killer that not many people can connect to a person they know. He's also outwardly evil and knows it, which isn't better at all, but in a way less annoying/ cruel? But anyway about 99% of people hate Umbridge more than Voldemort😂
The hate on Umbridge is mainly due to her being an embodiment of every corrupt official in office. Many people hate her more than Voldemort because she reminds them of people they despise in real life. In short, she is a realistic portrayal of an evil person who walks among us.
There are some villains that you just can't hate, and then there's Dolores Umbridge. In the Harry Potter universe, Dolores Umbridge was, in some ways, more sinister than even Lord Voldemort.
That's what Umbridge is, and that's why a very small number of people will do anything other than hate her with every fibre of their being. It also helps that unlike Snape, she doesn't have a redeeming arc and was not portrayed in the movies by a superlative actor and charismatic man
Dolores Umbridge is objectively worse than Voldemort I don't mean just that she's subjectively worse, that people hate her more. I mean that she genuinely poses more of a threat to Harry than Voldemort and seeks to cause him more harm than him. Voldemort just wants Harry dead. He needs him gone and out of the picture, end of story.
Umbridge is evil in a special way. Voldemort is just downright evil. Plus Umbridge puts up that whole girly front that makes you want to punch her even more.
Her cruel punishments, ruining quidditch, stopping DA, becoming Headmistress, attacking McGonagall, was just too real. Voldemort definitely did more cruel things than her but we only hear others mentioning them, but Umbridge was constantly present and we experience her directly from the main character's POV.
For example, Bono isn't a better Villian than Voldemort but I also hate him more. Edit: just in case you don't know who Bono is, he's the lead singer of Irish band U2.
We're used to his kind of evil. He's evil for evil's sake and Umbridge has every chance to do good, but decides not to, and so she's more relatable. Though if I might add something, what really makes me hate her later on is how willingly she goes with the changes in the Ministry after it's taken over by Voldemort and his Death Eaters.
Umbridge as a Representation of Different Forms of Evil One of the reasons Dolores Umbridge is such a memorable character is that she represents a different kind of evil than Voldemort. While Voldemort is the embodiment of pure, open evil, Umbridge's evil is more subtle. She hides behind her authority and uses the law to justify her actions.
I hate the typical answer to this question, which is usually Umbridge, because I feel like there's this sexist assumption that being evil AND annoying AND female is a thousand times worse than being evil and male. Voldemort was an unrepentant murderer, guys.
Umbridge isn't really in the books that much, but we hate her more than the homicidal blood-purist who uses dark magic. It kinda makes you ask "why?", or at least it made me.
Nope, I hate her more than Voldemort. Rowling even had the perfect way for her to face justice in DH-- the Dementors should have eaten her soul in that courtroom, and no one deserved that fate more than her.
Umbridge is like the insecure bully you see in class trying to get in your head, but Voldemort is already the demon inside there. Everyone wants to face down Umbridge and her Hogwarts rules, but facing Voldemort and his regime is much more difficult and all-encompassing.

Even his appearance is more physically uncomfortable than the pink pantsuit Umbridge wears. There is nothing about Voldemort that makes people believe he is anything but evil. Harry Potter: 5 Best Ministry Of Magic Employees (& 5 Worst) Umbridge, for the most part, is a painful fixture during Harry's fifth year.
Umbridge, on the other hand, is a teacher who doesn't teach her students, who gives cruel and unusual punishment, who's mean to her students, who tried to get Harry expelled (by sending dementors to where he lived), etc. Teachers in real life can be like that; not teaching students, giving cruel punishments, trying to get certain students ...
It started out with an insightful observation that a lot of fans have a more visceral reaction to Umbridge because she more closely resembles the average fan's experiences of injustice, but it turned into this highly repetitive "Umbridge is worse than Voldy amirite?" thing that has been run into the ground.
Umbridge just seems worse because she's more relatable to our world Umbridge "seems worse" because most of our community are teenagers who think a mean teacher is the greatest evil imaginable. Voldemort is at least honest with what he wants This is a great explanation of why honesty does not make you virtuous.
If Umbridge is the equivalent of Trump, and Trump is worse than Voldemort, then Umbridge is worse than Voldemort. Ultimately, Umbridge and Voldemort really are two sides of the same coin; she's just a little more "polished" because of her legitimacy and therefore more dangerous to the magical world.
Obviously Voldemort is more evil, but I disliked Umbridge more. I also disliked Mundungus more than I disliked Voldemort (ingrained phobia of poor people, I assume).
The chances that any of us will ever encounter a real life analogue of Voldemort are pretty slim, but everyone has met an Umbridge: someone in a position of authority who uses their power to be petty and cruel. She's someone who smiles when they're about to give you bad news, someone who finds joy in ruining another persons day.
Tom Marvolo Riddle[7][17] (31 December 1926[18] - 2 May 1998), later known as Lord Voldemort or, alternatively as the Dark Lord, You-Know-Who, He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, or, just simply Voldemort, was an English half-blood[3] wizard considered to have been the most powerful and dangerous Dark wizard of all time.[19][20] He was amongst the greatest wizards to have ever lived, rivalled only by ...
While I do think your point is valid I would say its hatered more than disgust that causes people to dislike Umbridge more than Voldemort. Its just a personal more grounded kind of opression compared to Voldemort.
While Voldemort and his death eaters hurt more people why is it that, in my heart, I hate Umbridge more? Voldemort was cruel and twisted and would hurt anything and sacrifice anyone to get what he wanted (and particularly to get to live forever).
