The issue we have is that people tend to down vote assholes rather than call them assholes, which goes a little bit against the whole point of the sub. So after several attempts to counter this without removing the down vote button entirely, we removed the down vote button entirely.

Continuously voting for people you don't want to vote for because they are slightly less terrible than the other just encourages it. A candidate doesn't have to be good, or even try to actively convince people to vote for them, they just have to make people think the other guy is worse and that gets them the job.

Patagonia went viral on social media for supposedly stitching "Vote the assholes out" on the back of tags in their outdoor clothing. Turns out they're real.
You literally should not vote if you aren't informed or don't know who to vote for. Politics is complicated and it takes a lot of time to really understand issues. If you tell someone to vote who doesn't read the news, doesn't listen to the candidates, read any political books, etc... then that's actually the bad thing.

"Vote the assholes out" has become something of a catchphrase for Patagonia's founder Yvon Chouinard. Over the past four years, the company has clashed repeatedly with the Trump administration and congressional Republicans over public lands policy.
Frankly, I don't see this as a good use of my time. And besides, there's always some other dolt (who read a different bumper sticker) waiting to negate the vote of the first.

Don't vote only to put a particular candidate in office. Vote for their policies. Even if a candidate doesn't get in office, if they draw a lot of votes then other politicians in the future will take notice and possibly adopt some of their same principles and policies. Reply reply robbbbb •

Patagonia trended on Twitter this week as images of their new (and political) clothing tag ― it reads, "Vote the assholes out" ― made the rounds. Over the weekend, Outlander Magazine tweeted a snapshot of the tag, which reporter Ana Navarro-Cárdenas then posted about on Monday night.
As an addendum to the letter, Chouinard wrote, "P.S. Remember, vote the assholes out — all of those politicians who don't believe we should do anything about climate change.
So if you don't know how to vote because you don't like any of the parties — that's how to vote. But this prompts a wider debate about how such a situation could arise.
