He is now 100% healthy and seems to be enjoying spending the winter indoors. 😊 Once it's warmer we'll move him to an outdoor enclosure and release when food is plentiful.

12/22/2020 EVALUATION Fearful, whining, retreated on handler approach; darted out when handler opened kennel door; wary, head flipped during collar placement; stiff, piloerection when other dogs approached to inspect; did not seek interactions with other dogs; snapped/corrected play solicitations; approached and inspected lead but tensed, exited when lead attempted to interact; avoidant when approached; second leash on return
12/23/2020 OBSERVATION Came forward on handler approach; ducked leash; walked to yard; explored; wary, unsure of handler; approached for treats - grabby; timid but allowed petting, then leaned in; later backed away when handler attempted to pet; used second leash on return
12/25/2020 OBSERVATION Greeted handler at the gate, ducked leash repeatedly but then allowed placement. Walked well, small play yard. Handler removed leash. Explored yard, did not initially seek interactions but came to handler after 10mns and solicited attention. Allowed petting but wary, stayed with handler after that, relaxed, allowed leashing and returned with no issues.

Solicited attention, put front legs in handler's lap on bench, allowed all petting/handling. Chased a ball around the yard, followed handler, very soft posture. Returned easily.
1/1/2021 ENRICHMENT Canine was laying on bed, got up and came to front of kennel when handler approached. Easy to leash, walked well to yard. In yard canine explored and solicited attention from handler off and on. Allowed petting, leaned into handlers lap. Calm throughout interaction. No issue returning to kennel.
1/4/2021 OBSERVATION At gate on approach, wiggly body, easy leash placement and pull. Walked well on leash. Handler removed leash in the yard. Explored yard, solicited attention, jumped on handler a few times for attention. Returned with no issues.

1/16/2021 WALK per vol Wendy G Pull from back. He attempted once to dart out, but I had kennel secured so he could not push it open. Easily leashed and walked out of the building a steady pace. Did not pull and walked nicely on leash. Gentle when given treats. Easy return.

1/28/2021 WALK Per volunteer - easy to pull and to return, walked very well on leash, loved treats and toys and enjoys fetching in the yard, super affectionate and docile. I took him as my DAY Foster on Friday-- he was very good in the car, did great during the 5 mile hike in the South Mountain trail, walking just a few steps behind me, very friendly with the people we saw in the trail, did not react to others dogs nearby.
1/29/2021 SUMMARY I'm a short little dude with some extra-tall ears, and I'm searching for a new best friend - could it be you? I may have thought the shelter was a pretty scary place at first, and tried to avoid interacting with people - but then I realized that you humans can be pretty nice and even have snacks sometimes! It didn't take long for me to start making friends, and after about a week I was already actively seeking attention and having a great time playing ball out in the play yards! I already know a few basic obedience commands, and I would love learning some more if you'll take a little time (and a few yummy treats!) to teach me. Write down my name and A# or take a photo of this page, then go ask an adoption counselor to meet me today! :)

2/2/2021 OBSERVATION 02/02/21 18:37 had out for dog to dog intro. moderate pull, ducked leash some and attempted to push out. met owned k9 (small neutered male) at fence stiff body, high stiff tail, pilo, briefly inspected and then began growling and high pitch vocalizing. brought into yard for potential barrier reaction. began pulling towards other k9. was hyperfocused and could not settle. lip licking, high pitch vocalizing, intermitten growl, furrowed brow, stiff body, and high stiff wagging tail. owned k9 was avoidant and wide eyed. ended intro. moderate return, attempted to fence fight, return to kennel with treats and coaxing.

Dora – 2039425 – 6 years old – Female – 12lbs. Dora was surrendered to ACC due to her previous owner passing away. Dora is terrified in the Kennel Environment (deep growling/lip licking) and has not allowed processing by the clinic.
Update. Doug made it through the night. He is on seizure meds for the rest of his life at this point. He has been transferred to Santa Fe Animal Hospital and …is having trouble breathing. Please keep him in your thoughts.
