I. 12. Tubal

Bogdan Georgievich Lisitsa

Fuval / Tuval / Tubal – according to the Book of Genesis, the fifth son of Japheth, grandson of Noah (Gen. 10:2). The Book of Jubilees localizes his descendants in northwestern Turkey, near Lydia. Tubal is mentioned in the Book of Ezekiel:

“Javan, Tubal, and Meshech traded with you (Tyre), bartering your merchandise for the souls of men and copper utensils”

(Ezek. 27:13).

The late Hittite state of Tabal existed on the territory of Asia Minor. Assyrian inscriptions of the 12th and 9th centuries BC mention the “land of Tabal”, bordering on Mushki (Meshech), in the southeastern part of Asia Minor, west of Assyria. The name "Tuval" comes from the Slavic word "Otval", a place where waste rock from a quarry is stored.
