Permed her hair curly to avoid typecasting that she felt was disrespectful of her American Indian ancestry.

Needed four blood transfusions in 1997. She could not keep up with her fan club obligations; in an effort to reduce her stress over the situation, her second husband, Craig, sent a letter through the fan club saying she had died. This closed the fan club. He also closed the site and post office box associated with it. Rumors that she had faked her own death persisted for years. Some even claimed this was done to make more money on selling memorabilia, which was an obvious lie as the fan club had been closed.

Has three children; Two sons (b. 1987 and 1990) from her first marriage and one son (born in 2001) from her second marriage.

Miss Nude Galaxy 1979 and 1981. Was the first to win the title twice. Had to sit out one year according to the rules in order to accomplish the feat.

A registered member of the Cherokee tribe.

In her younger days she was in the Royal Lancers Drum and Bugle Corps of Cape Coral, FL, and she lived there between 1972-75.

It was said that, as a feminist, she requested that both her husbands take her last name in marriage. While Cherokees, along with most other tribes, are matrilineal and the last name is handed down from the mother's side of her family, her husbands did not take her last name. Her first husband took her last name as a stage name. This was his idea. Her real last name was changed to her husband's real last name in both of her marriages. Her second husband took the name Shred Lee against her wishes and after their divorce, she insisted he drop the stage name.

She started in theater. She had done over 100 musicals and plays in community and dinner theater around the country. She also used to have her own dancing studio where she taught jazz, tap, and ballet. She is a member of the Dance Educators of America, an organization that only allows members who can pass strict oral, written, and physical tests. She is qualified to teach ballet, including point, and she sings opera and has performed on stage in "La Boheme".

Her parents were only 15 years old when she was conceived. She was raised by her grandmother.

N 2012 she was profiled in "Dirty Talk: Conversations with Porn Stars" by Andrew Rausch and Chris Watson.

Graduated from George Washington High School in Indianapolis, IN. She graduated in three years with enough credits that she did not have to attend her senior year. She also took singing, ballet, tap, jazz, and modern dance at Butler University.

Was the subject of the first issue of the 1995 comic book "True Stories of Adult Film Stars" published by Carnal Comics.

I believe that all knowledge known to humankind should be readily available to anyone who wishes to learn, regardless of bloodline. I see no logic in continuing a system of discrimination started by a government that tried to exterminate us. Our culture includes such things as the peyote ceremony, cannabis use and the honoring of eagle feathers. Our government wanted to make sure the predominant culture did not take up these practices, as well as many parts of the Native heritage that they found threatening. Since this country was founded on freedom of religion, this continues to be a problem. The Government made it legal for Natives of a certain blood to follow their culture. When the Native blood was sufficiently mixed, the government made it illegal for them to do such things. Requiring Native blood "quantum" for such things is a perfect way to wipe such knowledge from the face of the earth. It works especially well when the people one is trying to annihilate have now taken up that cause and enforce the restriction themselves. If we truly want to leave a better world for our children unto seven generations, the practice of limiting knowledge to those who can prove a certain lineage has to stop. If we can make this world a better place but choose not to because the people in it are not Native enough, what kind of people does that make us? We are then no better than the ones who perpetuated our holocaust. We have just continued their mission for them. And who suffers from all of this mess? The children today are in terrible distress. The second leading cause of teen death in the United States at the time of this writing is suicide. There are over 38,000 total suicide deaths in the United States each year. Therefore, I am writing this book as a letter to my grandchildren. They deserve to know how to find happiness. I don't care how diluted their Native blood is. That is irrelevant. They deserve a world that has kindness and hope abundantly available to them. Tomorrow is not promised to any of us. We do not know what the future holds. I may not be available to them when they are ready to receive this information. So it is for them, and for everyone else in this world who draws breath now or will some day in the future, that I write this book.

[believing sleeping with producers was only way to get a mainstream movie role] Of course it is the only way, especially for someone like me with my past.

[marriage to Bud Lee, who pushed her into adult films] I feel it was pretty obviously negative. Two sick people together cannot live a healthy life.

[the general reaction towards Shauna Grant's death within the adult industry] Just like the reaction to the other 20-some people who have committed suicide: "Oh well, (it's) not the industry's fault. Who will be the next new star?"

[on whether she would resurrect her adult film career] Not a snowball's chance in hell.

Hyapatia Lee (pronounced "high-a-PAY-sha") was born Vicki Lynch. By 1977 she was performing regularly on stage as an actress at the Black Curtain Dinner Theater, Footlite Musicals, and Indianapolis Civic Theater, among others. In 1979 she became a regularly featured dancer at the Red Garter Lounge. On a whim, she entered and won the Miss Nude Galaxy contest in nearby Roselawn, Indiana. This led to her cover and centerfold modeling. When she won the Miss Nude Galaxy contest a second time in 1981 she decided to accept one of the many offers she had been given to appear in an adult movie. She wrote the script for her first movie in which she also starred. She learned to direct, produce movies, and even contribute to the musical score. She was one of the most popular stars in the history of adult films, choosing to appear in only a few quality, high-budget productions. For example, The Ribald Tales of Canterbury was a half a million dollar production. In 1993 she was inducted into the XRCO Hall of Fame, was given the "Lifetime Achievement Award" from the Free Speech Coalition in 1995, and received a few other awards from the adult film industry (Actress of The Year for her role in The Masseuse, etc.) For several years Hyapatia wrote music, released two albums and performed with her band Double Euphoric. In 2005 she was named Blessed Woman for the Lost River Band of the Cherokees in Mitchell, Indiana where she performed traditional ceremonies, taught the people to speak Cherokee and sing traditional songs. She also shared the knowledge she had learned from various medicine men and women. In 2016 she began sharing this information with the rest of the world with her Native Strength books. In 2017 she began production on the Native Strength documentary series on the ancient wisdom given to Native Americans by the Star People.
