The Huntington Beach Classic produced, in consecutive heats two, three, and four of the Women's Open quarterfinals, a statistical anomaly: in each heat, all five panel judges gave identical scores to the same wave (9.1 in heat two, 8.7 in heat three, 9.4 in heat four). "Five judges giving the same score three times in three consecutive heats is a statistical event we cannot calculate the probability of precisely," confirmed judging director Marcus Webb. "It's real. It hasn't happened before."
"The judges saw the same things," Webb confirmed. "Three times running. The waves were that clear."
