Teen girls were 'humiliated' after sexually explicit photos were shared, says victim | CBC News Loaded
One of the 20 victims of six Bridgewater, N.S., youth who will be sentenced in the coming weeks for illegally sharing intimate images says she's still haunted, adding, 'I definitely wouldn't want this to happen to any other teen girl in high school because I know the impact that it can have.'

When she sent selfies of her partially naked body, she thought only her boyfriend would see the images.
The teenager never imagined one of the sexually explicit photos would end up being shared with five other boys in a Dropbox account.
"Basically [he] threatened to break up with me if I didn't send him pictures. I was young and naive and just sent them, and then that's what he did with it," she said. "I just think he's a pig."
The young woman is among about 20 other victims, who cannot be identified because of a publication ban. The identities of the six young men who pleaded guilty to sharing intimate images without consent are also protected under Canada's Youth Criminal Justice Act. The sixth officially entered a guilty plea on April 12.
The case was back in Bridgewater, N.S., provincial court today — but was adjourned until May 9 — to allow defence lawyers more time to review a joint statement of facts. Sentencing is scheduled for July 31.
The young men, who range in age from 15 to 19 years old, were all youths at the time of the offences in 2015. They all attended Bridgewater Junior/Senior High School.
The young woman says her relationship didn't last, but the implications of those images continue to haunt her.
"I definitely wouldn't want this to happen to any other teen girl in high school because I know the impact that it can have," she said.
"Other girls will judge them, make them feel bad about themselves, make them feel like a slut for sending the picture, for trusting the person. It hurts self-esteem and it makes it hard for people to trust each other."
Some of the girls were as young as 13 years old when their pictures were shared.
"They made a lot of girls feel self-conscious or bad about themselves and lose their self-esteem and trust, and they can never get that back. What those guys did was very disrespectful. No matter the age, they should know what they did was wrong," said the young woman.
The boys have agreed to attend educational training, similar to restorative justice. The Crown has said it's waiting to see whether the teenagers show remorse before a sentence is recommended.
The young woman who spoke to CBC News says she doesn't believe "this abuse should be taken lightly."
The six teenagers also faced charges of possession and distribution of child pornography, but those charges were dropped last month.

A young girl who said she was forced to strip and show her pantyliner to police after a false drug detection at a music festival has spoken about her humiliation.
The teenager, then 16, attended the Splendour in the Grass music festival in Byron Bay , New South Wales, last year when she was flagged by police sniffer dogs at the festival entrance.
The girl said at an inquiry she felt 'completely humiliated' by the experience and 'couldn't stop crying' as she was forced to strip naked in front of authorities.

'I was really scared because I didn't have any drugs on me and I was completely alone,' she admitted, explaining the police wouldn't let her answer her phone or call friends or family members.
She said she started to cry, and described the moment a police officer led her into a tent, put on blue gloves, and instructed her to move to the corner for 'more privacy'.
While she initially thought the officer was going to give her a pat down, panic set in when she was asked to remove her lace leotard.
'I pulled my leotard down to my waist. The police officer then told me to take everything off, including my underwear,' she told the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission.

'At that point, I realised I was going to have to get naked in front of this police officer. I could not believe that this was happening to me. I could not stop crying.'
The schoolgirl said she had a pantyliner in her underwear.
She was told to remove it and hand it to police to inspect.
After being told to squat, she said the police officer also squatted down and looked underneath her.
After the search produced no results, the officer told her to get dressed and head back to the festival.
'I was extremely upset. I was sobbing. I sat with my friend trying to calm down. I did not stop crying.'

The girl shared her shock, claiming she was scared to make eye contact with a police officer at the festival for the remaining three days of the festival.
She described how difficult it would be for her to report an actual issue to police at the festival if necessary.
Under NSW law, police are not allowed to carry out a field strip search unless the situation is classified as urgent.
If a strip search is conducted on a minor, a parent or guardian must be present unless it's necessary to protect the person.
The inquiry revealed seven minors were strip searched at the 2018 all-ages event.
Of the 143 strip searches conducted on festival goers, 90 per cent were false detections.

A teenage girl who was forced to strip and squat in front of police after a false detection by a sniffer dog told an inquiry she “could not stop crying”.
The girl, who was 16 years old at the time and is known as BRC, said she had been waiting in line on day one of the Splendour in the Grass festival at Byron Bay in 2018.
After a sniffer dog came and sat next to her, she said an officer said: “Put your hands where I can see them and don’t reach for anything.”
BRC said she was told she would be searched for drugs.
“I was really scared because I didn’t have any drugs on me and I was completely alone,” she said in a statement.
She was told to go to the corner of a tent where a female police officer put on a pair of rubber gloves.
The officer first told her to take her denim jacket and denim shorts off and she was then told to take off her lace leotard.
BRC said while she thought she would be patted down, it soon became clear she would be strip-searched.
“At that point I realised I was going to have to get naked,” she said.
“I couldn’t believe this was happening to me. I could not stop crying. I was completely humiliated.”
The girl said she was told to take off her underwear and even lift up a pant-liner for the officer to inspect.
“She told me to squat on the ground. She then squatted down and looked underneath me.”
After finding nothing, she says the officer said: “OK, that’s all good, now you can get dressed.”
“I feel I can no longer trust police,” the girl said.
She said whenever she saw another police officer during the festival, her body tensed up and went “clammy”.
Counsel Assisting the Commission, Dr Peggy Dwyer, told the hearing that police did not have “untrammelled” rights to conduct strip searches.
“Absent any legal justification it could constitute an assault,” she said.
She said police regulations stated that a parent, guardian or support person must be present whenever a child between 10 and 18 is strip-searched.
The public inquiry comes just days after a NSW coroner’s leaked draft recommendations called for pill testing to be introduced.
They also recommended police stop using sniffer dogs at festivals.
The hearing is set down for four days and will hear from the officers involved.

Vile footage captures sick attack where warped gang make victim call herself insulting names before booting her
THIS is the chilling moment a girl gang attacks a helpless teen they accuse of spreading rumours about a classmate sleeping with her stepdad.
The vile footage, which is being used as evidence in a police investigation, shows the victim being forced to humiliate herself while being kicked and punched.
She is made to call herself insulting names on camera before a boot stomps on her face.
There are even reports that this was the second violent assault on the defenceless victim in just two days.
The video, filmed in Russia , shows a pack of six girls circling the victim, who can only be named Kristina K to protect her identity.
Two male teens were also present during the attack.
One of the boys appears to hold the camera for most of the sickening video.
Four of the attackers and the two boys -- all of whom are aged between 14 and 17 -- have been shamed on Russian social media site Vkontakte.
The girls were named as Alexandra A, Avgustina R, Elena K, and Elena. The boys were named as Krill K and Alexander L.
Both the filmed assault and the alleged first attack are being investigated by police in Chaikovsky, a town in the Perm region.
The initial attack is thought to have been over a boy, according to investigators.
A girl that knows the attackers described them to local media as "a bad example for other teenagers".
Another said the attack was over "dirty gossip" being spread about a classmate sleeping with her own stepfather.
"So this girl gathered her friends and they beat her", she said.
