Humble Motors will build a solar-powered electric SUV

The Californian startup Humble Motors has presented the design of a fully electric SUV crossover with a solar roof. On its website, the company is also accepting reservations for the four-door “Humble One” from interested parties in Europe.

For the roof of the Humble One, which is just over five meters long, the developers are planning to use 7.7 square meters of solar cells. With the help of the sun, energy should be generated for an additional range of almost 96 kilometres per day. To do this, “solar wings” can be folded out when parking. For comparison: The German electric car startup Sono Motors is promising up to 34 kilometres more range for its Sion minivan with solar cells integrated into the body.

Humble also advertises the One with lightweight construction, a high level of safety and good aerodynamics for an SUV with a drag coefficient of 0.25. The company is forecasting a total range of more than 800 kilometres per charge. It is not known how big the battery will be. The engine output is specified as 761 kW (1034 hp).

If you want to reserve the Humble One, which costs from USD 109,000 before taxes (approx. 92,500 euros), you can do so for 300 dollars (255 euros). Production is scheduled to start in 2024, with deliveries scheduled to begin the following year. According to the company, there are already pre-orders valued at $ 20 million.
