As part of its mission to bring inspiration to the New European Bauhaus initiative, the High-Level Roundtable contributed to the co-design phase with a concept paper. For the paper, members of the initiative provided their thoughts on a series of initial visions and actions that they consider a continuous work in progress, which invites and embraces broader community inputs. Alongside CapitaLand and CDL, we’re excited to announce Singapore residential development, CanningHill Piers. BIG’s design scheme comprises four towers of different heights – a pair of diagonally-facing residential towers, and two towers for the hotel and serviced residences – set atop a double-story commercial podium. All four towers are distinctly spaced apart from each other to maximize views and allow the courtyard at the heart of the commercial podium, to open to the sky. Housing a total of 696 units, two residential towers are connected by a sky bridge on Level 24, filled with a wide range of lifestyle facilities and offering unobstructed views of Fort Canning Hill, Singapore River, the Central Business District (CBD), Marina Bay, and beyond. At 180 metres, the 48-storey residential tower facing the riverside will be the tallest residential development along the Singapore River, while the 24-storey residential tower overlooking Fort Canning Hill stands at 100 metres
New World’s K11 Shanghai Huaihai Zhonglu land project has officially broken ground. The project will become K11’s new iconic cultural retail landmark, bringing customers on an immersive “creative journey” to promote cultural, artistic, commercial, community integration. The design team includes BIG-Bjarke Ingels Group, Leigh & Orange Architects, Lead8, and P landscape Co. Ltd. Together, the design team will collaborate closely in the fields of historical building research, cultural architecture, and landscape design, to preserve and restore the historic buildings in the land parcel, letting its cultural value shine to the fullest.
The 3D-printed research habitat, Mars Dune Alpha, will aid in long-duration science missions to realize future civilization on Mars. Mars Dune Alpha’s analog missions – part of NASA’s Crew Health and Performance Exploration Analog (CHAPEA) program – will provide valuable insights for NASA’s space food system, as well as physical and behavioral health and performance outcomes for future space missions. The 1,700 square-foot structure, located at Johnson Space Center in Houston and 3D printed by ICON’s next-gen Vulcan construction system, will be home to the crew of which NASA is now actively seeking. “Together with NASA and ICON, we are investigating what humanity’s home on another planet will entail from the human experience,” says Bjarke Ingels, Founder and Creative Director, BIG-Bjarke Ingels Group. “The data gained from this habitat research will directly inform NASA’s standards for long-duration exploration missions, and as such will potentially lay the foundation for a new Martian vernacular. Mars Dune Alpha will take us one step closer to becoming a multiplanetary species.”

As reported by Designboom, the 25-meter-high Marsk Tower has officially opened to the public. The sculptural landmark and lookout point in Southern Jutland, Denmark, will provide a new gathering place in the UNESCO World Heritage site of Wadden Sea National Park. A wheelchair-accessible tower, the elevator located in the core of the tower provides access via the ground level ramp. The tower’s simple design, defined by Corten steel materiality, exudes a natural aesthetic that blends with the surrounding environment.
