Now Reading Nudist Camp Etiquette With Barbie Ferreira
It's not every day that you take Internet star and actress Barbie Ferreira to a nudist camp, but that's exactly what Refinery29 did. As part of the ongoing series How To Behave , Euphoria star Ferreira sought out to interrogate public opinions on body image, body hair and nudity.
The 25-year-old hasn't been immune to public scrutiny about her weight. As someone who lives outside of the sample size, she has spoken out about the "backhanded compliments" she's received. "It’s not radical for me to be wearing a crop top," she told Who What Wear , adding that people project confidence onto her simply because of her weight.
"Many of us are self-conscious about our bodies because we’re still very much judged on how we look. So I’m on a journey to see if it’s possible to love your body wholeheartedly," Ferreira says in this Refinery29 video .
Walking through a park, she interviews passersby, asking them questions ranging from what body hair they remove to what they like to see on other women. She found that some people aren't "crazy about" body hair on others and some people "shave [their] arms and legs and armpits." One person admitted to "just let[ting] it all hang out... all natural" but added that they "don’t particularly care for body hair on women [though] a little hair on the arm is okay."
"I used to really hate having body hair… but when I stopped shaving and stuff that’s when I really grew into myself and was able to realize this is what my body does and it does it for a reason. Before I always felt like I had to shave," Bronx-born artist Monica Hernandez tells Ferreira.
Then, Ferreira pays a visit to Young Naturists America, a group of people that believe in tolerance, body positivity and ending censorship around bodies. Here, we see her interacting with a group of naturists in their birthday suits — congregating around campfires, skinny dipping and sunbathing outdoors.
"It’s designated to be a safe space," says Ferreira at the end of the experience. "Being here you can feel whole because you’re more than just your body, you are a person.”

Yes, this is the type of comfortable dressed or undressed community. I like swimming nude, and that is OK here. I am comfortable being in close quarters with other nudists.

Visited for the first time on Sat, 8/4/2018. First off, the grounds are beautiful. Surrounded by trees and a creek. Pool is clean, as are the bathrooms. When I arrived, I passed through a secure gate. Was directed to the clubhouse after sign-in. Went directly to the pool. After awhile, regulars started showing up. Man, talk about friendly people. They introduced themselves, asked about me, and invited me to join activities. This will definitely be my Go To place for birthday, holidays and days off.
Love "the creek"! Down to earth, friendly folks, freedom and fun in the sun! Float the creek, beach volleyball, water volleyball, karaoke, and dancing! Owners are present but not intrusive. Love Marc and Molly!
As someone who is new to the area and was looking to rejoin the 5K race scene, I came across a listing for a clothing-optional 5K at Cedar Creek. My only experience with public nudity was at private events and not at some place where I would meet strangers. It was easy to find with the directions from the website. Checking in was simple as there was only one form to fill out and IDs to show. The race was great fun, though if walking the trail you should be prepared for some sandy spots. The clubhouse had a brief yoga class prior to the race, but I did not participate. I spent time by the pool, participated in the race, won a medal in my age category (by default LOL), and the person accompanying me won a door prize. Lunch was offered for a small fee. Both the indoor and outdoor pool were very active. My second trip to the resort took place on Mother's Day weekend. No kids, no worries, no clothes! I had an opportunity to get in both the outdoor hot tub and the indoor hot tub. The restroom facilities are spacious. I got to chat with some of the people I had met at the 5K race, which was nice and felt welcoming. We brought a cooler this time so we had plenty of drinks since it was a hot, sunny day. We also had the chance to walk down to the dock and see where members and visitors can float the creek. Be sure to bring slip on shoes for around the pool area and walking shoes for the trails. There are areas around the pool for smokers and non-smokers. The facility believes in aluminum can recycling, which is good. There are plenty of lounge chairs, tables with chairs, picnic table, indoor seating, darts and a pool table, and a hammock for use. We have seen the RV spaces and huts that are for rent though we have not stayed overnight yet. Overall, I had a good time. My only personal struggle was the prevalence of many people drinking to excess. As an addict in recovery, it was a bit uncomfortable from time-to-time, but I managed to keep my focus. I keep a permanent "B" face going, so no one really bothered me that much.
A great place. Low key. If you want an all over tan......This is the place to go. Sip mojioto's by the pool. We normally rent one of the cabins and spend the night. The owners are very laid back.
