How to read a comparison written by a competitor

BetterPic

Vendor comparisons in this category are written by competitors, ours included. They are still worth reading, if you take the right thing from them.

Take the method

What face was used. How many source photographs. How many portraits generated, and how many were usable. That test design is portable — run it yourself with your own face and you get an answer nobody has an incentive to shape.

Leave the verdict

A company comparing itself to a rival reaches a predictable conclusion. That is not dishonesty, it is structure.

Three things that expose a weak comparison

It does not name the source photographs, so there is an uncontrolled variable in the middle of it. It shows no failed run, which means it curated rather than tested. It carries no date, so it may describe a market that no longer exists.

The test nobody publishes

Run the face you are least sure about through two free tiers. Twenty minutes, and it produces no affiliate revenue for anybody.
