How to install Kodi on Apple TV
KODIApple TV is a great device, so it's a shame that you can't install Kodi from the App Store of tvOS , Apple TV's operating system. Anyway, this does not mean that you cannot install it by other methods that you will see in this Kodi installation guide on Apple TV. Also, if you follow these instructions you will not need to Jailbreak the device.
After seeing the requirements and tools you need to install Kodi on Apple TV, we will see three different installation methods:
- Installing Kodi on Apple TV with Cydia Impactor
- Installing Kodi on Apple TV with Xcode (USB)
- Installing Kodi on Apple TV with Xcode (Wireless)
As you can see, the options are quite a few.
Installation requirements
These are the things you will need before using any installation method:
- Fourth generation Apple TV device or higher, or also Apple TV 4K.
- The device has tvOS version 11 or higher.
- The latest version of Kodi for iOS, which you can download from the Kodi website.
To download Kodi from the official website, go to the download section of the Kodi official website and click on the iOS version .
A sale will open in which you will see two possible versions that you can download, 32 or 64 bits. Download the 64 - bit version, which corresponds to the file DEB FILE (ARM64) . You can also download development versions from the Development Builds tab, but they are not recommended, as they could cause bugs.
We will look at three Kodi installation methods. Two of them will work with Apple TVs that have a USB port , which are the majority. We will also see a third method for Apple TVs without a USB port, such as the Apple TV 4K.
For the first method you will need the Cydia Impactor tool. For the methods that use Xcode, which are the second and third, you will need to download Xcode , as well as the iOS app Singer app .
Installing Kodi on Apple TV with Cydia Impactor
Let's see how to install Kodi on Apple TV using Cydia Impactor. The first thing we will do is convert the DEB file downloaded from the Kodi website into an IPA file. We will then use Cydia Impactor to install Kodi with this file.
Creating the IPA file
To create the IPA file you must follow these steps:
- The first thing you should do is make sure that you have an application to decompress ZIP files. Windows will be able to unzip files by default, without installing any application. For Mac, you can use The Unarchiver , which is a free application.
- Download the DEB FILE (ARM64) file from the Kodi official website by following the instructions in the first section of this guide.
- Unzip the downloaded file and, among the unzipped files, look for one called data.tar . Unzip this file as well.
- A directory named data will have been unzipped . Open this directory and then open the Applications directory . Inside you will see another directory called Kodi.app . Well, well, you should not open this last directory. Instead, create another directory next to it that you will give the name of Payload .
- Now copy the Kodi.app directory inside the Payload directory that you just created.
- Now you need to compress the Payload directory into a ZIP file . It is vital that the compressed file is in ZIP format and not in another format. To compress the file in Windows, right-click the file and select Send to -> Compressed (zipped) folder . IF you are using the 7-Zip application , right-click on the file and then select 7-Zip -> Add to file .
- To compress the file on Mac, right-click the folder and select Compress . The resulting file will be directly a Zip file.
- Now we are going to rename the file to be called Kodi.ipa . If you use the default Windows application to compress files, simply rename the file to Kodi.ipa , without the .zip extension . If you have compressed the file on Mac, more of the same; Give the file the name Kodi.ipa , without the .zip extension . If you use 7-Zip, you will see a window with various options when compressing the file. Here, you need to select ZIP as the file format, but the file should be called Kodi.ipa .
- And with this you have already created the file.
And we already have the IPA file created.
Installing Kodi with Cydia Impactor
For now you have only created the IPA file that you will use to install Kodi on Apple TV with Cydia Impactor . Let's now look at the installation process itself. Follow these steps:
- First of all, make sure you have installed Cydia Impactor . Once you download the application, you will have to unzip it in a directory.
- Connect Apple TV to your computer via USB , making sure it is turned on. If iTunes opens automatically, close it.
- Now open Cydia Impactor. As you can see, it is a very simple application.
- Drag the Kodi.ipa file and drop it onto Cydia Impactor. You will be asked for your Apple ID . Enter your account details and continue.
- Cydia Impactor will copy Kodi to your Apple TV. The process may take a few minutes. When finished, disconnect the device from your computer.
And that's all. Connect Apple TV to your television, turn on the device, and you can see that Kodi is installed.
