Will definitely return before leaving beautiful Barbados and when next here. Germ15 Copenhagen, Denmark 30 contributions. A smart tourist gallery. What we liked about the Gap was that there is a variety of shops and street vendors that are clearly aiming at tourists but there is not much hawking and badgering You can shop at leisure and end up buying more than you bargained for. Review of: Art For Everyone. Nick L 1 contribution. Awesome experience from start to finish. Great to be able to get a few miles in on Strava whilst on the island for just a week. Do not hesitate to rent from these guys and get out and have a ride here. Thank you again Natalie and Randy. Review of: Bike Caribbean. Sandra B 2 contributions. Surprisingly impressed!! We did not expect this level of magic A must see! Review of: Barbados Magic Lounge. Michael B Bellflower, CA 23, contributions. Lots of great nightlife. We rented the only apartment on the beach at the Saint Lawrence Gap, so it was perfect for visiting the Gap during the day or night. They will drop you off at the corner by the Castaway restaurant opposite Cafe Sol. Continue past the palm trees on the beachfront on your right, and then follow the road up the hill past the Dive bar and turn left at the Cocktail Kitchen opposite Saint Lawrence by the Sea church. There is a great variety of bars and restaurants here that serve local Bajan dishes and cater to the tourist but be warned it gets very loud and busy at night. In the daytime, visit the veranda at the mimosas bar and drink lots of Icy cold adult beverages while gazing out over the blue Caribbean, or wander further down the gap and you will find a variety of street vendors selling everything from fresh Coconuts to slices of Macaroni cheese. There are even signs for Cuban cigars, Barbers, island tours, a Friendship place, and lots more eating establishments. TIP: Chickens seem to be everywhere they make great subjects for different holiday photos. I would apricate a thumbs up below if you found this review informative. Thank you. The cove was ok nothing special, music was ok DJ kept skipping the music so you couldn't really enjoy the vibes. Drinks of course was watered down, so we left. Review of: The Cove. Legume London, UK 79 contributions. Excellent Service from a Lovely Local Company. We really wanted to explore the island by car for a couple of days, so waking down St Lawrence Gap one day we saw the office of Express Car Rental and popped in. The lady in the office was exceptionally friendly and reserved our vehicle for us. A few days later we popped back, the paperwork and car were all ready for us, so we were off! It seems as if Express have a slightly older stock of vehicles, with a few more miles on the clock than some others might have. But the car was reliable and served us well for the two days that we went all around the Island. As such there a little cheaper than the main rental companies. We were already happy with Express and would happily recommend to anyone.. On the off chance that it was in the car, I popped back to the office and they had it there and all bagged up for me to collect. Wonderful service, lovely people and we will be back to come and explore the island some more! Review of: Express Car Rentals. The strip is full of drug dealers and people openly doing drugs. Constant hassle on the strip and the beach from beggars. I didn't see any problem whatsoever with drugs or drug dealers or harassment in the Gap last February. I spent a week on Barbados as a solo female traveler in my 50s. I walked 15 minutes each way from my hotel to the Gap alone on several evenings, no issues. A couple other women from my hotel in their 20s and 50s also had no issues going there several times in the evenings. I think one guy said hi and asked me if I wanted 'to party', which may have meant buy some weed? I just said no thanks, and that was it. I did have people who said hi as I walked past their tables of jewelry for sale - totally cool with me and I bought some nice necklaces to remember my trip! I think if you want to feel threatened or offended, you can find the ability to feel that way anywhere on the planet. The only time I felt slightly uncomfortable in Barbados was one late night in Holetown, when I was waiting for a bus. Several taxi drivers came by to offer me and two other ladies a ride, and we eventually took one. The driver was excellent, and said that he did not like to see women taking the bus late at night, just to be safe. I have traveled to many other countries, and felt far less comfortable and was approached by many more questionable characters in places like Cancun and Greece. I just rented an apartment for 3 months beginning of next year. Battaleys St. Peter area. Can anyone tell me more about this area. However I know this area very well Generally and with the proviso that no one is quite sure how things will be over the next 0 to 12 months The first thing to say is that there is a very good and inexpensive bus service up and down the west cost and into Bridgetown. Speightstown is the nearest Most of the accommodation is the area is villa or small apartment groups with one or two bigger developments on the beach.. As you get nearer Speightstown there are a few more hotels. Gibbes Beach is very quite North of Mullins there is little easy access to the beaches Mullins and Gibbes are easy. Main centres otherwise for eating out are Speighstown and Holetown The biggest supermarket with most choice is Massy in Holetown but there is also Jordans in Speightstown less choice but OK for the basics and probably a tad cheaper than Massy. In Mullins is a Rubis garage with a shop Hope that helps to start I didn't notice anyone doing drugs in Barbados! Nobody seemed high or out of it either. Nobody injecting meth into their arms on their beach loungers or snorting lines of coke at the beach huts. No groups of teenage boys at the beach smoking weed! In fact, smell way more weed on an average month in London than I did during my trip to Barbados and I stayed in a rental which meant I ventured out quite a bit. I didn't happen to go to Dover beach for whatever reason but I did visit 4 different beaches on the south coast and 1 on the west. At no point were we offered drugs. No weed smells either. I felt very safe in St Lawrence Gap at night and everyone including the men were extremely respectful. I only noticed people smoking weed at Oistins Fish Fry which isn't the best Nightlife that Barbados has to offer anyway. AGAIN nothing that would make you think that the island has a rampant drug problem. Barbados has a very small nightlife scene which means that tourists don't tend to go there with the intention of partying and getting wasted anyway! So I don't believe Jeff T one bit. If anyone happens to scroll this far down the thread then hopefully you've realised that Barbados is an beautiful place. It's a very calm island and I even know people that claim to find it 'boring' compared to other holiday destinations but I largely think that's because the pace of life is much slower. I like that balance though. The partying is time-boxed or limited to very specific locations which means it's rare to find drugs or rowdy people on the beaches during the daytime. I cannot for one second understand why Stacey has dragged up the very old , very derogatory thread which is totally lacking the truth about this beautiful Island , it should have been deleted ages ago. Not that you'll get an honest answer from the Barbados is wonderful regulars on here. Barbados is wonderful but you're right to have concerns about security - it costs money and is there for a reason. The fact that you're on holiday on a sunny island shouldn't mean you should let your usual guard down for a moment. There is a lot of drug dealing but tourists who don't wish to avail of the service rarely get harassed. In a friend of ours was out there at the same. She had been offered drugs a few times which again I was shocked at because after all my many trips a year I thought Barbados was a certain way and it really made me realise that it was only that way where I stayed, shopped and ate and not everywhere. Common sense says I should have realised this because that is true for any place but I think when you are ok holiday and especially when you really fall in love with a place, you leave common sense behind!
