Hakuba Japan Guide: What You Need to Know - Hakuba

After an active day in the mountains, there is no better way to rest and recharge than soaking your sores away in the hot relaxing water of a Hakuba onsen. Japan is a geothermically active region and hot springs can be found literally everywhere. Water is geothermically heated to at least 25 degrees and must contain at least one of the 19 designated naturally occurring minerals in order to be designated as an onsen. The health benefits of onsen are numerous. The minerals in the water can help cure ailments, buoyancy and water pressure reduce vasoconstriction, and more. But health benefits aside, there is a real pleasure in simply getting into the hot water and soaking your body. Onsen etiquette can seem a little daunting at first. Communal baths are not as common outside of the land of the rising sun. There are a few key things to remember, but what it really boils down to is respect for other bathers being polite and keeping the water clean. No, an onsen is a bath, not a hot tub. There are private Hakuba onsens that will allow you to wear your swimsuit, but we recommend going for the full monty. In Japan, tattoos are seen as a symbol of organized crime Yakuza and are frowned upon. Many bathhouses will not allow patrons with tattoos to use their facilities. Here in Hakuba, with the large number of foreign tourists, most onsens turn a blind eye to tattoos, but this is on a case-by-case basis. For some resources on tattoos in Japan check out Tattoo Friendly Japan. Most of the information is limited to bigger city centers, but there is a searchable database of tattoo-friendly onsen. No, most onsens provide soap and shampoo, all you need is your towel and personal after bath products you may use. Photo Credit: Hakuba Highland Hotel. Why it Made the List: Tenjin no Yu comes in at number 7 on our list because of its spectacular views. Located on the east side of the valley in the Hakuba Highland Hotel, the outdoor bath gives you a stunning panorama of the Hakuba mountain range. Why it Made the List: Obinata no Yu is the only private onsen on our list private during winter only. If you are looking for an option that allows you to keep your swimsuit on in a Hakuba onsen, this one is for you. You and a group of friends will be picked up from your hotel and whisked away to this private retreat where you can soak and laze away the day. Why it Made the List: The Mominoki Hotel has a beautiful Hakuba onsen that not only pleases the senses but is also known for having one of the highest alkalinities in Japan. The high pH will exfoliate and remove toxins from our skin as you soak in the newly renovated bath. The surrounding plaza also includes several restaurant options and of course an ice cream shop. If you are in a rush, or just want to soothe your feet after a day in the mountains there is also the free foot onsen located outside. Why it Made the List: Located on the second floor of the Green Plaza Hotel, this Hakuba onsen has baths at different temperatures, an outdoor bath with a view, and to top it off a waterfall. What better way to relax those weary muscles than to let the falling water massage away all your aches and pains. Why it Made the List: Set inside two traditional year-old and year-old buildings, this is one of the largest and most beautiful onsens in Hakuba. The natural wooden beam structure creates a relaxing experience with a traditional Japanese feel. Why it Made the List: Mimizuku no Yu is known for its pure water and healing properties. With two smaller baths one indoor, one outdoor and stunning views of the Hakuba mountains, this is a must-try for onsen lovers. Many Hakuba locals tout Mimizuku no yu as being the best onsen in Japan. Hi there! You must be logged in to post a comment. The Ultimate Hakuba Onsen Guide. Undress in the change room and store your clothes neatly in the basket or locker provided make sure to remove all jewelry as the minerals in the water could cause damage. Take a small towel with you when you enter the bath area you can use this to cover yourself if you feel modest. Before you get in the bath wash with soap and water at one of the shower stalls you will need to sit down on a stool. Thoroughly rinse all the soap off your body. My fiance and I thoroughly enjoyed our 6 night stay at Sierra Resort, Hakuba as the staff were very attentive and friendly, and conversant in English. In particular, one of the Japanese ladies named Fumie was a great help to our stay as she ensured that our ski equipment was laid out for us each morning. In addition, the staff also helped remind us to make reservations at popular restaurants for dinners as well as provided a free shuttle to and from the resort. In the resort, the onsens were spacious and we enjoyed the free provision of tea, water or coffee milk at the waiting area outside the separate gender onsen rooms. The views at the waitinng area were nothing short of beautiful as well. In addition to their good service, the hotel also provides complimentary Japanese rice, soup, dessert and some pickled dishes throughout the day till 8pm for any one that feels hungry. Coffee, tea, hot wine and ice popsicles are also made available for free at a common living area with a fire place till 11pm. We will definitely be back again to this hotel, as our stay here made us fall in love with Hakuba, which is now our favourite over the much famed Niseko area in Hokkaido. My wife and I stayed in this hotel for 5 nights for a ski trip. This is an older hotel like most of the mid range hotels in Hakuba , not extravagant, but is clean and homely. We took a Chuo Taxi from Narita which, after 5. Otherwise, one can drive or take a train to Hakuba Station or Nagano Station and get connections there. But since Hakuba consists of different ski resorts, one has to take shuttle buses anyway to get to the different resorts anyway. The hotel is located up a small hill, and away from any apres-ski activities, so one has to take a taxi for that. For us, this was no problem, as we usually enjoy a quiet time soaking in the onsen and then go for an early dinner anyway. We booked a Western style twin room a few months ahead and got a very good rate. The size of the room was not big but it has a sofabed, so can sleep three. There was a small flat screen TV and kettle. Heater and Wifi worked very well. Our package was Half Board. We found the breakfast and dinner buffets quite good, and there was decent variety although we got a bit bored after 5 nights. Despite most of the front desk staff did not speak much English, they were extremely helpful, polite and friendly. Their efforts definitely scored top marks from us. Overall, this is a typical small and quiet mid-range hotel. It is older but clean hotel with most that you need for a quiet ski focused holiday. For us, it was excellent value for money. If you prefer having bars and restaurants nearby, this is not the hotel for you. But for us, we will definitely try to stay here again next time we ski in Hakuba. The staffs at Oak Forest are so wonderful and helped me so many times even after I checked out from the hotel. I finally know what does above and beyond stand for! Long story short, Agoda messed up with my booking the hotel did everything they can to provide what I was trying to book via Agoda. Not just that, everytime when I had a problem they always try their best to provide me a solution. I cannot even express how thankful I am! I had the chance to stay at both their Japanese room and Western room. To my surprise, both rooms were very spacious! Japanese room was a little bigger Everything was nice and comfortable - I also have to mention the house keepers did very good job in our room! If this wasn't in Japan I really would have left some tips for them! The hotspring was also very clean with just one suggestions - maybe putting numbers on the shelf for the slippers would help people remember which ones belong to them : Breakfast was also very good they changed up some items everyday. Thank you so much Oak Forest!!!! We at stayed at the Tokyu hotel in Hakuba just over a week ago. We enjoyed our stay all in all. We had the included breakfast every day, it was pretty got with a balance of western and Japanese fare. We also tried the pub did and French restaurant. The pub food was pretty good although quite expensive. The fresh food was even more expensive and nothing to write home about. We really liked the hotel provided smartphone with free intentional calls. Also enjoyed a nice Onsen at the end of a long day of skiing. There was a locker and drying room for all your equipment. The drying room was a bit cramped. There were lots of other dining options close by and fairly frequent shuttle buses to the resorts and town. The room itself is big enough with our only real complaint being the twin bed setup which isn't ideal for couples that like to sleep together. Aside from the fairly average snow conditions by Japanese standards , we really enjoyed our stay here. Laforet Club Hotel Hakuba Happo is a really beautiful hotel. Though located away from the Happo bus terminal, it's free shuttle service and super friendly and English speaking staffs makes it all worth while. It's also within walking distances to many restaurants and convenience store so location really isn't an issue at all. Rooms are spacious too spacious in fact and clean and have an authentic Japanese feel to it. Love it!! Will be back again, hopefully soon. Really enjoyed our stay at Hakuba Gondola Hotel. The location was excellent, only being a 2 minute walk to the snow. Definitely would recommend. We really liked Hotel Hakuba because of the breakfast. But do note breakfast only runs 7am Rooms were really nice and big - my group of 7 friends could gather within one room. All our rooms came with a mini balcony and a big nice window for you to admire the Hakuba view. You can contact the hotel for a free shuttle pick up from Hakuba Station. Fantastic hotel. Close to food, shops and Hakuba base camp bus stop. Beds are comfortable and a good sized room. Super friendly staff, will definitely be booking here again when we return. It is a very good place to stay for skiing. Just a few minutes easy walk to Kokusai lift. At the entrance of the hotel you have conveniently the skiroom. Hot bath, perfect after a long day skiing! The room was super spacious we were 2. With own sink and toilet japanese style. Western breakfast nice with fresh bread rolls but only available on some days of the week. Great location right behind Hakuba Base Camp - easy to take shuttle buses. Great value for money! Right in Echoland so quite a few food options. The rooms were all big enough to house 3 people. The toilets however, in all the rooms I booked, had a pretty bad smell. This hotel exceedes my expectation. We stayed here for 2 nights. The owner is one of the nicest people we've met in Japan. He picked us up from Hakuba Station and drove us to Hakuba 47 the next day. He even taught us how to ski since it was our first time. We rented all the skiing gear from him and got lift passes for half the price! It was worth it and it saved us a lot of money. The breakfast was sublime!!! It was so delicious. I cannot recommend this place enough. I promise you, you won't regret it. You will be treated like royalty. TIPS: 1. You may call the hotel to schedule a pick-up from the telephone booth at Hakuba Station. The owner will not pick you up if you arrive 6pm onwards. Do not include the country code. Most restaurants around the area are only open during the Winter Season. The nearest is a minute walk away from the hotel. If you want to eat dinner, you must inform the owner one day in advance. Wow, what an outstanding breakfast. There is something for everyone!!!!! Best breakfast in the area. The room was kinda small, but ok. Ski lockers and reception area was great. Staff was excellent. Location to skiing was perfect. We travel a lot but usually never bother rating hotels as I am lazy. However, the staff at Mominoki was so helpful with my many silly requests that I feel they deserve that I let others know. Besides the great staff, we really liked the 'comfort' type room. Room very big, bathroom very small, with a bathtub so small it is almost cute. Everything nice and clean. During a 4 day stay, the only thing that annoyed me was that one night they let a large outside group tour reserve most of the restaurant, which left little space for hotel guests. All the other nights and mornings breakfast and dinner service went smooth, again not least thanks to the great staff. If we ever come back to Hakuba, we will stay at Mominoki. My wife and I recently stayed at this hotel on a 4 day ski trip to Hakuba. It's well located near the major ski slopes and is only a short walk to various restaurants etc. It isn't brand new, but it's efficiently maintained and tidy and everything works fine. It caters well for westerners. The rooms are large and comfortable. The staff Tak and the girls are among the best we have met anywhere. They are very attentive and friendly. At the end of our stay, it was like saying goodbye to close friends. This is a great hotel and we will be back. This is a very good place to stay in central Happo for skiing along the Hakuba Valley. Excellent facilities - ski storage, drying room, onsen etc. Wonderful staff who provided first class support, pick up from train station, wonderful breakfast, assistance with Taqbin etc. Very clean establishment as expected in Japan. Good heating. Ideal location close to shuttle bus stop, 5 mins from Happo bus terminal for buses to the other Hakuba ski hills and Nagano , good bars and restaurants nearby. Will definitely stay there again. This hotel is very worth the price we paid for. We did not expect the hotel to have Australian staff and management. So English speaking, recommend, information is completely make my trip wonderful. Room is very big, nice and cozy. Super clean. The room is big and the bed is very comfy and the comfort room is also very spacious. Shower and hot water is very flow, strong. The hotel is centrally located in the best area of Hakuba, very close to Ski place. Breakfast is quite good and quality. The area is nice like you see in photos and very quiet at night. The staff is also very cordial and attentive to our needs. Overall, I will definitely recommend this hotel to my friends when they go to Hakuba. Very good suport fron Toshi. Location is a bit of a challenge if you like to get around town yourself, but Toshi does drive you around in his van. Overall good experience liiving in a Japanese style hut! Pension Grace is great value for money if you book the dorm room. The place is clean, Wifi worked well and there's a cosy lounge area to hang out in. Kiyomi, Kone and Yumi are friendly and very willing to help with any request you have. There are two shuttle bus stops minutes away, which was convenient, and Base Camp is a 7-minute walk away. I liked this place a lot and recommend it to anyone who's looking for cheap and good accommodation. We had a fantastic time here. Rosenheim was recommended to us by friends and there were many return guests there during our stay. Staff were very helpful. Happy hour each evening was a good chance to meet others. Breakfast great and the Friday night buffet meal was the best. First of all, my partner and I have never been hosted as well as what we did by Takao and his wife. He helped us by booking the private onsen just after we arrived, helped book restaurants and even drove us to night skiing and dinner one night when it was pouring rain. Takao alone should make this establishment 5 stars! The location is fantastic for snow fans with Echoland base camp 2 mins away. There are plenty of public transport, food options, bars and convinence stores within walking distance. Plenty of room to store your gear in the room as well as the dry room downstairs. Booking the private onsen on the day was a massive perk in our eyes! Stop your thinking and just book! The best thing about this hotel is the large room sizes, and its proximity to Happo Bus terminal which provides free buses to all Hakuba mountains.. Goyu, 47, Iwatake etc For those content in skiing Happo-one, it's a stones throw from the Gondola. The lower level has plenty of room to chill out and grab a coffee and make use of the free WiFi. The hotel has its own male and female Onsens, and although they are small, it's definitely better than not having them.. They also have a drying room and tune up bench for any adjustments you might need to make. Hotel is right inthe middle of the numerous bars and restaurants of Happo. Definitely a great deal, and the manager was extremely helpful. Host is a japanese grandpa, who is nice and kind. Room is small but enough for a single traveler. Overall, I would recommend again. There was no breakfast and the crew were always out snowboarding this is more like a airbnb than a hotel. Provided no toothbrush or toiletpaper. They even made me clean my own dishes when i borrowed there dish because they had no food. Worst this hotel was in the middle of nowhere so it took us 1 hour to get to the nearest convenience store. There was also bugs in the room. I would never book this hotel ever in my life. We had a great time at Hakuba Cottage Gram. The owner of the cottage came to pick us up even though it was not part if the arrangement. She waited for us as our bus arrived late at Hakuba bus station. After checking into the cottage, she drove all of us to a little town for Ramen and Onsen, then picked us up at 5. Couldn't have asked for more. The owner's daughter, helped us booked taxi to the ski rental as well as ski resort. She boiled a nice restaurant for our Sukiyaki and shabu-shabu diner too. The cottage is beautiful, well equipped. First night we cooked soba for dinner. Only 2 things we do not enjoy is the unavailability of wifi and the one toilet that makes 7 persons under a roof a little challenging. But they were small issues. What can I say but the red door lodge is epic! Nic the owner and her trusty side kick James go out of their way to make you feel extremely welcome. Nothing is a problem for them. Nic is so cool I made her an honorary kiwi!!! The location is perfect. The rooms are big, warm and comfortable. James does the best bacon and eggs to get your day started. Lots of cool eating places and bars within stumbling distance of the lodge. Thankyou Nic and James for looking after us and making our trip awesome. We had an amazing time at Pension Airmail. The owners were lovely and incredibly helpful. Their English isn't great but they will make the effort to help. Our room was very spacious, warm and comfortable. There is a at the end of the road about 5 minutes walk away. There are plenty of dining options in the area. The main Echoland strip with a bunch of other options is about 10 minutes walk. One small problem - there is no laundry at the hotel or in the immediate area. This probably isn't important for most people but I thought I would mention it. My family of 5 had a wonderful stay at Allure during the last week of Dec The operator, Shane and his team - Glenn, James and Matt were all very warm and friendly, and always ready to help us on our transportation and restaurant reservation needs. The accommodation location is convenient as the Hakuba 47 shuttle bus stops right at the front, while the other shuttle buses to Happo One, Iwatake and Tsugaike stop at the Tokyu Hotel just a stone's throw away. The rooms are however spartan and the attached bathroom is typically small. Slightly inconvenient but not a big issue, we were at Hakuba to ski. Wifi was strongest at the dinning area but patchy at the common hall and room areas, which was another inconvenience. They served reasonable western breakfast but do not cater for other meals. Overall, I would rate Allure as 'good value for money'. For my family, the warm hospitality had more than made up for the little inconveniences - osewa ni nari mashita. If you are into into the Japanese ski experience with included breakfast and dinner and an on site onsen, this is not your kind of place. If you don't mind the 'time-share' feeling of making your own breakfast and possibly sharing a bathroom come here. The staff is amazing. The house is clean. The kitchen is fully supplied with cooking gear. And they have discount tickets for much of the area's attractions lift tickets, onsen, restaurants. They also let you use their facilities the day you check out after your day on the ski slopes, so no stinky train ride back to Tokyo! I went with a group of friends. But there were other families there with kids. For the price, I think it's the best place in Hakuba, especially if you are not looking for the resort experience. Clean, nice facilities. I like the location where the shuttle bus stop in front of you. Hakuba happo one will be a bit far but shuttle reach there too. Best part is 7 eleven is just 2 minutes walk from Hostel! I don't have to stock up food and can just walk to 7 Eleven and buy anything i need. Pros: - The staff here is really nice. Gaspard who is the owner of the house is a man with service at heart. He will arrange things for you if you ask for. Our 4-night stay at Morino Lodge - Hakuba was truly fantastic. From the moment we arrived we were welcomed by very warm and friendly staff who took care of every need we had from breakfast in the morning, to recommendations for activities and restaurants, to rides whenever and wherever we needed to go. We immediately felt right at home and especially enjoyed hanging out in the large living room which had a big screen TV and as well as a full bar. Our kids really enjoyed playing on the Wii game system and with the other available toys. The Lodge is nestled in the woods and yet within walking distance of many assets like restaurants, fishing, hiking, and skiing. When we return to Hakuba, we will definitely stay again at Morino Lodge. We can't say enough about our great experience. Thank you, Morino Lodge staff! Yoko, the host was amazing. She did everything to make her guests feel at home, when I told her my ski goggles were fogging up she even leant me her goggles. The rooms were minimal but clean and tidy. Location was great, a 5 min walk to Adam gondola or 5 min walk to shuttle bus station. If I come back to hakuba, I'll definitely stay here again. Pricing is reasonable comparing the location, but u must drive, washing and eating in outside which is better. Awesome place! All the staff, Declan, April, Brad and Jess were awesome, lots of fun, always very helpful and provided unreal service. Definitely added to our experience in hakuba by staying here. Facilities suited our needs perfectly. The owner drove his car to pick us up at the station despite being busy with family matters. Hotel is located in a forested slope, quiet and peaceful environment. Room clean and comfortable. We were allowed to shower despite returning very late, after 'curfew time'. Wi-fi connection is strong and stable \\\\\\\[better than many big hotels in Japan\\\\\\\]. We were allowed to store our luggage after checking out \\\\\\\[service 1, again\\\\\\\]. Only downside is that towels not provided. I stayed in this hotel for my off-season hike to shiroumadake, though there was no bus going to sarukura, the owner was kind enough to arranged a taxi for me. Agoda did not list the company's phone number or check-in time but after contracting Agoda we were able to sort things out. Very friendly staff that can speak English fairly well. The hotel is very well located. It's close to the station and close to the bus station to get to the mountains. The room we stayed in had a shower and a Japanese style toilet. For the price it was a very good experience. This little hostel was fantastic for a solo traveller staying for a week to do some snowboarding. The place is awesomely clean and even has a large private in house spa fresh water Onsen basically which was awesome to unwind after a day on the mountain. The supermarket and nearby made things super easy as well for dinner or snacks. This was our second stay at the Hakuba Pension Meteor. We have truly enjoyed staying there. The staff are very friendly and the environment is extremely homey and relaxing. The surrounding is beautiful and the local restaurants are excellent. We will definitely return! We stayed one week at Panorama Sanso and had a wonderful Japanese experience. The staff is great, helped us with everything. There is a great free onsen onsite. Dinner is available previous reservation, super yummy food. Great experience. Highly recommended! Top notch accommodation in Hakuba on the main strip of Echoland. Easy to get to all the moutains and lots of restaurants quick walking distance. Check out Mockingbird or Bear's Cafe. The family that runs this property are very friendly and it is a very good place to simply relax and enjoy the beauty that Hakuba has to offer. Each morning, there is a breakfast that will be served before you go out and hit the slopes. Nice and friendly stay here, the staff picked us from Hakuba Happo bus station. Very near to main ski area about m. It is a shared toilet accommodation but with a small onsen type of bathing facility. We stayed here for 6 nights for a ski vacation. The pension is a typical Japanese bed and breakfast, in an older but very clean and well maintained house. It is extremely quiet and peaceful. The owners are extremely pleasant and helpful, and speak enough English to communicate requests and provide information. The hotel is situated close to shuttles, and connecting with most of the hakuba valley is easy, but requires planning. This is NOT ski in and ski out. A good western breakfast was available on request. The restaurants and bars of echoland are a minute walk. The private onsen is amazing after skiing, and there is a gear room for drying equipment. The only downside is the shared upstairs bathrooms are not flushing toilets, so can be a little gross at times. However, there are other bathrooms that can be used. All in all, great value, would stay again and recommend. We were a group of three staying at Earl Grey. We came for the snow and were hoping for stormy days, but we had sunshine instead. Our host picked us up from the bus station and brought us back to our accommodation - a warm, large house with beautiful wood finishings. Hiroshi, our host, was very nice and generous, lending us dishes to use and driving us anywhere we needed to go without hesitation. This was great, as it was about a 30 minute walk from town. We all tried to speak eachother's languages to communicate and get to know eachother - this was a great challenge and good experience helping eachother pronounce words and use sign language. Impeccable service, the owner was super friendly and helped us with restaurant bookings and ski gear hire. The hotel is an authentic Japanese style hotel with onsite hot spring. There are lots of ancient beautiful Japanese decorations throughout the hotel, and there is a snow gear drying room downstairs. The hotel is close to all amenities. I had a great time and would definitely stay here again! Highly recommend it! The accommodations were simple, comfortable and clean. The meals were delicious. The hospitality was what made our stay so wonderful. We look forward to our next stay at Sunnyvale aside Hut! Excellent staff who are very helpful. They offered us a free lift to our bus station when we left and helped us print a ski coupon. Location is great at about minutes walk from Hakuba Goryu ski resort. Hotel provides free storage for our ski gears not fully secured though. Overall great value considering that breakfast and use of the hotel's hot spring are included in the price. The owner couple us The owner couple used to travel to many countries. They are very nice, pleasant, and friendly. The facilities are aging but clean. They have community toilets and a shower room. My husband and I went to nearby Onsen after activities. Easy access to restaurants in the area. We have favorite restaurants and cafes in the area by walking. If you need a simple place and inexpensive place to stay, I recommend this place. I love the entrance area with wild flowers in summer! A bit far from the train station or the restaurant if walking. The hotel is a bit old, and no internet. Nevertheless, the room is spacious, with private bathroom seldom in Japan for this price. The staff was really helpful, especially regarding the transport. Run by a wonderful couple, the inn is in a beautiful setting in a forest. It's warm and cosy with lots of wooden furniture. I was welled looked after, even getting a packed lunch of onigiri for my onward journey. I would highly recommend it. This is a wonderful resort with great facilities. Loved the ambience, happy hours in the lounge room, the outdoors curries, and the faboulous onsens. Rooms were excellent. We only trird the Japanese rwstaurant but food was just Ok. Better to try places in town if not too tired frim the slopes. We booked the Evergreen Ski School in Tsugaike Kogen 10min away by taxi- better to use taxi for a family of four as is the same price as the bus but drops you right at the school for our 5 and 6 year old kids and they were really amazing with kids. We loved the Tsugaike slopes the most better than Iimori slopes which we tried at the beggining and the Hakuba Ski School - not a very good establishment for kids in general. The best place in Hakuba! I had stayed in this hotel for 14 nights. And I had one of the best trip in my life in Hakuba. Not only overwhelmed by the superb snow but also by stay in this hotel. I love how it's family owned and it creates an intimate atmosphere. I love how the manager's mum, who's a chef comes out from the kitchen every morning to greet you. Not only that, there werer different breakfast available on different day of the week. So you won't get bored of their food. The hot spring- although it's a bit small compare to the other hot springs I've been to, it's one of the best because it's all natural. My skin feel really soft after my stay there. I love the fact that the free shuttle bus stop is only metres away from the hotel. So I don't have to carry my heavy skiis to walk miles to the snow. Overall, it was an awesome experience and I'll definitely go back and stay with them! Photos were true to the chalet. Big space to accommodate 8 people. I was there with just 5 of us.. Loved the massage arm chair. The hosts were very friendly and they offered me rides to the places I needed to get to. We stayed at the Big Apartments in a one bedroom studio and we were so pleased with the the quality and cleanliness of our room. Excellent room facilities in a self contained unit, including a very smart kitchenette, and essential basic cleaning services were provided on a daily basis. The apartments are located less than a minutes walk from the sakka 3 lifts even in ski boots! You can rent your gear from Central Snowsports across the street, and there are several restaurants within a a short walk. Some fairly highly rated restaurants are just down the road too. Definitely staying there again! Amazing service, kind and helpful staff. Lovely room, beautiful surroundings in the woods , quiet place, beautifully furnished and decorated Franck Lloyd Wright Art Deco style. We had a lovely room, very quiet and confortable, with a terrace on the woods. Breakfast is delicious, in a lovely dinning-room, tables are well seperated one from another so you have privacy. There's a buffet and also warm dishes to order. Waiters are very kind but also discreet, it's a perfect service. All staff is very thoughtful, from front desk to drivers to waitresses to house-keepers, etc. They bring you your skis in the morning and drive you to the slopes though it's very near, just behind the hotel 5 mn walk , and they take care of your skis and shoes again in the evening when you come back : we had nothing to do, just let ourselves being pampered and it's so pleasant! It's a very relaxing holiday, it's great! Hotel is a little far from the village center, but there are several slopes sites and you can choose any of them with the ski-lift pass, the best slopes are close to the hotel, and there are several other restaurants around the hotel and going to the slopes site. The front desk can make any reservation for you to any restaurant in Hakuba. There are two restaurants in the hotel : a grill-bar and a more fancy restaurant which is great : the chef is a perfect cook! We had a special dinner for our anniversary and it was delicious. There also a lovely small shop in the hotel near the front desk. What else can I say? This hotel offers a perfect service, always thoughtful, never bothering, we had the best vacation in a hotel ever. Find hotels near Hakuba in Hakuba, Japan vacation rentals and hotels available now.
