Три новых лечебных источника в Коринфе, Этолоакарнании и на Китносе - Афинские Новости

With its beaches and its coast bathed by the crystal and clear Aegean sea, you will be able to enjoy its beautiful nature by walking or snorkeling. Kyhtnos is small, but it has a lot to offer: from the traditional town of Dryopida to the most ancient Chora, from the hot springs in Loutra in the North to the small village of Kanala in the South, you will find the perfect way to enjoy your days in Kithnos all year long. If you want to know more about Greek islands, this guide helped us so much! What are you waiting? Keep on reading and discover what we loved the most about Kithnos! If you are arriving from the center of Athens, it will take you approximately one hour by car. The best way to enjoy Greek islands is with a backpack. We have this one and we really love it! If you want to know how to book your ferry ticket from Athens to Cyclades, we are writing an article about it, stay tuned. In the island the prices are way cheaper than the other near islands, but they are still high if you compare them to the prices you can find in Athens. Our Travala apartment was located in the village of Lefkes few steps away from the beach. It was brand new, really well decorated and with one of the most stunning views of the island. Supermarkets in Kythnos are really, but really expensive. We advise you to avoid the supermarkets that are tourist oriented, but prefer the ones frequented by locals. We advise you to buy groceries at Chora, the biggest village of the island: there we found the cheapest price. Regarding the restaurants, they are more expensive than in Athens, but in line with the prices you can find in Cyclades islands. Overall, our favorite restaurant was Psipsina in Chora: a stunning restaurant near an ancient church, very well decorated and with an incredible good Greek food. We really advice not to make the same mistake as us, so we do not recommend you to rent the car at the last minute. If you want to rent a car in Merihas, we recommend you the car rental where we took our car: the stuff was very friendly and the prices were the cheapest of all the island. If you are dreaming of white sand beaches and blue sea, Kythnos will not leave you upset. We explored the island and its most beautiful beaches in the month of September and, even if the summer was ending, we enjoyed them even more. In fact, Kythnos is the perfect island if you want to relax. We spent one week in Kythnos and every day was literally full of activities. What are you waiting for? Chora - This is definitely the most fascinating place of the whole island. Located in the center of Kithnos, it has a beautiful Greek spirit. You'll fall in love with its old houses, the cozy restaurants and the whole atmosphere of the town. If you like church, here you'll be served: from the one of agios Panteleimon to the one of Panagia, you will discover a part of the Greek Orthodox culture. Shops here are pretty expensive, but this is definitely the best area on the island to buy some gifts and souvenirs. Dryopida - Dryopida is really a nice old town where you'll be able to enjoy a dinner, have a walk in the evening and discover its ancient soul. Smaller than Chora, is the perfect place to visit if you are staying on the East coast of the island. We really recommend you to discover the main church and to get lost in the small streets of the village: there, you'll feel like a real local. Merihas - Merihas is the main town you'll see when arriving in Kyhtnos. It's not that big, but it has really everything: from bakeries to tobacco shops, from supermarkets to restaurants, from car rental to hotels, you'll find everything here. It does not have the charm of Dryopida, but it's still a nice option if you don't want to stay in an isolated place. Ah, it's also the closest town to the most amazing beach in the island: Kolona beach! Read our article about the best beaches of Kythnos to discover our favorite spots to jump into Greek deep blue sea. Loutra - Loutra looks like an abandoned village. It's very very calm, but we didn't really like its vibes. Here you'll have the chance to do an urbex in the abandoned therms and do some thermal treatment in the new therms. If you are traveling on a budget, you can enjoy for free Kythnos thermal water in the main beach of the town. Our powerful, compact and light camera. Our personal photographer: our tripod. Kythnos , the island of simplicity and hospitality, is one of the lesser-known and least explored of the Cyclades isles. Named after Kythnos, the mythical king of the original settlers known Dryopes and son of the god Apollo, it is characterised by its long and thin shape and ridge down the centre forming valleys that spread to the east and west. Many valleys end at a beach, with the result that Kythnos has around beaches, the most in the Cyclades! So join us as we explore all the unforgettable things to do in Kythnos. To do the charming little port of Merichas justice, find yourself your perfect waterside cafe and order a coffee. High up on any list of things to do in Kythnos is to visit the villages. It was built in a valley hidden from the sea, right in the middle of the island, a feature that gave the residents extra protection from the pirate raids that were common in medieval times. As you stroll down the alleyways, past all the whitewashed houses with basil pots in the windows and look up at the red-tiled roofs. The name of the cave Katafiki comes from the Greek word for refuge katafigio , from the days when it was used as a hideout from pirates. There are wonderful stalactites inside. The main town of Kythnos, Messaria or Hora, as most main towns on Greek islands are called is built amphitheatrically on the slopes of a hill. It is 8km from Merichas, the port, and has been continuously inhabited since the 17th century. With its intense Cycladic colours and authentic island atmosphere, it charms every visitor. There are quaint squares and a labyrinth of cobblestone alleyways, arches and churches, whitewashed houses with colourful doors and window frames, cafes, bars and sweet shops, as well as windmills — all of which combine to make up a wonderful Cycladic settlement. This is due to the thermal springs found near the northern port, Loutra. In front of the hotel is a beach with a stream running to the right, forming a natural swimming pool that becomes a thermal bath. Just be careful because the water temperature can reach 52 degrees Celsius! As we were saying, Kythnos has more beaches than any other island in the Cyclades. More than to be precise. The options really do feel endless. Pro tip: Many beaches have family-run tavernas that you have to try. And when you do, order sfoungato , a croquette made with local cheese and one of the traditional dishes of Kythnos. Herodotus ranked the cheeses of Kythnos among the luxury items of the ancient Greek world. The ideal seasons for hiking are spring and autumn when the temperature is ideal and nature is at its most impressive. A popular walking path is the route to the Castle of Oria one of the medieval landmarks of Kythnos, known simply as Kastro, at the top of a steep hill and the remains of the settlement destroyed in AD as well as the church of Panagia tis Kyra Eleousas at the summit. Meanwhile, the route to Lefkes beach, crossing the traditional settlement of Dryopida, has numerous points of interest along the way, such as the stone plystaria buildings, dating from , where the women of Dryopida used to wash the village clothes. It takes something special to stand out amongst beaches, but Kolona does just that. The water is a little warmer on the right as, within walking distance to the north, is another beach with thermal springs nearby. Ideally, the best way to visit Kolona is by water taxi from Merichas 15mins away because the road to get there by car is a little challenging. The high clay content of the soil has inspired pottery in Kythnos since the earliest times, in everything from the construction of cooking vessels to beehives. And the workshop of third-generation potter Giorgos Georgoulis, in the centre of Hora, offers visitors the opportunity to create their own souvenir. You can book a pottery class and discover the potter in you! There are sea walls, reefs and caves and crystal-clear water full of colourful marine life that goes beyond every imagination. The diving centre at Loutra has all the know-how and specialised equipment you need. So there you have it! The quickest way to get from Athens to Kythnos by ferry is to travel from Lavrio, in eastern Attica 1hr30mins crossing. Alternatively, there are regular ferries from the port of Piraeus to Kythnos 3hrs. Kythnos is not a very big island and distances are quite short. There are regular buses between the settlements Merichas, Messaria, Loutra and Dryopida but you can also take a water taxi or a regular taxi. Water taxis are also an excellent way to explore the coastline. It is also beautiful to visit during spring and autumn in order to enjoy the scenic countryside, especially the many hiking paths. Kythnos is one of the least explored islands of the Cyclades, known for its crystal-clear waters, hospitable locals and authenticity, especially in the scenic main town Hora and villages. It has a long tradition in ceramic pottery and a medieval castle to explore, but its most memorable feature is its plus beaches.
