Now let's understand how Downloading/Uploading works on your devices.

Downloading

Every file has information in it, and getting that information into our device is called downloading.

Uploading

As same as downloading uploading also deals with information in files, but rather getting that information into our device it sends it to other devices

Direct downloading(server)

It uses server which has lot of storage with high bandwidth which uploads the data from it to the users.

Torrent downloading(P2P)

It's a Peer-to-Peer network , and it doesn't have high storage, high bandwidth but has more devices linked together to share files. Every device linked to particular torrent file acts as server.

//Let's understand some terminology about torrents//

1.Seed/Seeder/seeding

This is the starting stage of a torrent. A device which has complete file(100%) is called seed. and the person who is linked to that device is called seeder. and uploading the data to others is called seeding.

2.Peers

The devices which are simultaneously downloading and uploading the file but not has a complete file(<100%) are called peers. The Peers who downloaded the complete file are converted into seeds. and they start seeding that file to other peers.

3.Leecher/Leeching

The devices which are only downloading the files but not uploading the file are called Leechers. and the process is called Leeching.

4.Swarm

The whole set of {seeders,peers,Leechers} is called as swarm.

5.Trackers

These are attached to the .torrent file or magnet link and used to track the IP, downloaded information, location,...etc of the devices which are present in that swarm.

6.Torrent Metadata

This is the information which was tracked by the trackers of all the devices in the swarm

7.Torrent Clients

These are the software which decode the information of .torrent/magnet link to download the metadata from it. and the metadata is used to download the file in your device.

Before learning about "process of torrenting" let's see how the torrent files are created using the torrent clients

How torrenting works

Step-1:File will be shredded into multiple packets of data. Each data packet as given an ID.

Step-2:The first person who created that torrent file need to upload the data packets into the swarm. and he will be the first seeder

Step-3:The people who download the torrent file from third party websites and can access Metadata using any Torrent Client.

Step-4:After decoding the metadata from torrent file, their IP will be written in the metadata, and he becomes Peer and older metadata is re-written in the torrent file using the trackers in the torrent file and this is how the torrent file is updated.

Step-5:After downloading all the packets. The Torrent Client merges every packet together according to their ID's, and uploading data packets into the swarm will automatically start after downloading certain number of packets.

Note:

Healthy Torrent

Healthy torrent is something which has lot of active seeds/seeders to upload the data into the swarm and the downloading speed of the file is superfast.

Dead Torrent

Dead torrent is something which has no active seeds/seeders to upload the data into the swarm and the downloading speed of the file is '0 kbps'.
