How to Verify a Meme Coin Creator Before You Buy: 8 Checks
MemeSwapMost meme coin losses don't come from the chart. They come from not knowing who launched the token or what they can still do with it. Anyone can spin up a token in minutes, so the creator is the first thing worth checking, not the last.
Here are eight quick checks you can run on any new launch before you put money in.
1. Find the deployer wallet
Every token has a wallet that created it. Look it up on a block explorer (Solscan for Solana, Basescan for Base). A brand-new wallet funded minutes before launch is a yellow flag on its own.
2. Look at what else that wallet launched
Serial deployers leave a trail. If the same wallet launched ten tokens this month and every one went to zero, you already know how this one is likely to end.
3. Trace where the funding came from
Follow the SOL or ETH that funded the deployer back one or two hops. Funding straight from a fresh exchange withdrawal or a mixer-style hop chain is common with throwaway launches.
4. Check how much supply the creator still holds
A creator sitting on a big slice of supply with no lockup can sell into your buy at any time. Check the holder list and see whether the dev wallet, or wallets it funded, hold a chunk of the supply.
5. Check for linked wallets in the first block
If a handful of wallets bought in the very first block, got funded from the same source, and hold similar amounts, that's usually the creator buying their own launch through side wallets.
6. Confirm the socials belong to the creator
A real team links its X, Telegram and site to each other and to the contract address. Watch for copied logos, socials created the same day, and Telegram groups with comments turned off.
7. See whether liquidity is locked or burned
If the creator can pull the liquidity, everything else is moot. Check whether the LP tokens are locked (and until when) or burned.
8. Watch the first hour, not the first minute
Real launches build. Engineered ones spike and bleed. Giving it an hour costs you some upside but saves you from most of the worst exits.
Why we're building this into the launch itself
Running these checks by hand on every token is slow, and most people don't do it. MemeSwap's Safe Launchpad, coming soon, is built to put creator verification, sniper and bundle-wallet detection, automatic LP lock or burn, and dev vesting and sell limits in place at launch on Solana and Base, so buyers aren't left doing the detective work alone.
The MemeSwap app is already live on iPhone: MemeSwap Wallet on the App Store.
