How to Set Parental Controls on Netgear WiFi Router?

To set up parental control on Netgear router login

  1. Use a computer, laptop or smartphone that is connected to your Netgear wireless router.
  2. Pull up a web browser on your connected device and enter routerlogin.net or 192.168.1.1 without any typos in its address bar field.
  3. Hit the Enter key on your keyboard.
  4. Launch the Netgear Desktop Genie app.
  5. Enter the default network key/ password (until unless you have previously changed it).
  6. Select the Parental Controls option.
  7. Parental Control window appears.
  8. Click on the Next button to proceed with the setup process.
  9. Setting up Live Parental Controls screen will display.
  10. If you have an OpenDNS account, click on the “Yes, use my existing OpenDNS account” button. In case, you do not have one, click on “No, I need to create a free OpenDNS account”.
  11. Click on the Next button once you are done.
  12. Now, carefully complete the OpenDNS information for your account and click on the Next button to proceed further.
  13. Select a filtering level (low, moderate, high, or custom) and click on the Next button.

Note: It is advised, select High filtering level in order to block access to video sharing, phishing attacks, adult-related sites, social networking sites, etc.

  1. Once the filtering level is properly set, proceed towards the next step which is to create a bypass account.

Note: Some of your devices will still be able to access your WiFi network without any restriction.

  1. On Netgear Genie Status window, click on the Change Custom Settings button.
  2. Click on Add a bypass account.

Note: You are supposed to install the Netgear Genie on each computer, laptop, iPhone, iPad, etc. On which you want to access the Bypass account.

  1. Create a unique username and password for your bypass account.
  2. Click on Add account once done.
  3. Edit the filtering level of your bypass account and click on Save Filtering Level button.
  4. Select Add a time block option.
  5. Choose the time and type of filtering level and click on Add Time Block button.

Congrats! You have successfully created your bypass account.

  1. Go back to your Netgear Genie Status window.
  2. Click on Bypass Login button.
  3. Double-click on the bypass account option - enter your newly created password and click on the Login button.
  4. Once you are successfully logged in, you can access the internet without any restrictions.

If you want to access blocked content on a computer, laptop or mobile device with active parental control filtering, you might see this page. This means that Live Parental Control is working perfectly fine.

Note: To fix routerlogin.net not working issues, use 192.168.1.1 (Netgear router's default IP address) and make sure that the latest version of firmware is updated on your Netgear WiFi router.
