How to Reset the Instagram Algorithm in 2026

Has your Instagram feed started showing you the same kind of content over and over again? Or maybe your interests have changed, but Instagram still keeps recommending things you used to watch months ago.

A quick reset can help you start fresh.

Open Instagram and go to Profile → ☰ → Content preferences → Reset suggested content. Instagram will clear the recommendations it has built around your previous activity, giving you a cleaner starting point.

But here’s the part that actually makes a difference: what you do after the reset.

For the next few days, pay attention to what you interact with. Search for topics you genuinely enjoy, follow accounts that are relevant to your current interests, and spend more time on posts you actually want to see. When something irrelevant keeps appearing, use Not interested instead of simply scrolling past it.

Also, try not to interact with random content just because it catches your attention. The algorithm doesn't always know why you stopped to watch something, so repeated interactions can influence what appears in your recommendations.

And if you find useful Reels or posts while cleaning up your feed, save the links somewhere outside Instagram too. I sometimes use "LinkDownloader" for this when I want to keep an Instagram link handy instead of trying to find the same post again later.

The goal isn't to completely "fix" Instagram overnight. It's simply to give the algorithm better signals about what you're actually interested in now.
