How to Draw Reptile (Mortal Kombat)

InYanReturns Learning To Draw

Step 1. Step 1: Start by drawing a big circle as a guide for the top half of Reptile's head. The circle doesn't have to be perfect. It's just a guide. Leave room at at the bottom for his jaw.

Step 2. Step 2: Under the circle, draw a line as a guide for Reptile's jaw and chin. The line should be similar in shape to the letter U.

Step 3. Step 3: Now draw a long vertical line that splits the whole shape in half. This is a construction line that will help you place Reptile's facial features later on.

Step 4. Step 4: Draw two small shapes as guides for Reptile's eyes. Draw them sitting on top of the lower edge of the main circle and on either side of the vertical construction line. The shapes of the eyes should be similar to flat, wide half-circles.

Step 5. Step 5: That’s it for the initial sketch! You have the basic Reptile shape. Now go in and tighten your drawing. From this point on, press harder with your pencil in order to get darker lines and a more defined sketch.

Step 6. Step 6: Draw the eyes using the initial half-circles as guides. Darken the edges of the shapes and make the lines thicker. Inside each eye, draw a thick slit for Reptile's snake-like eyes. Add a small circle inside each eye to represent glare.

Step 7. Step 7: Draw a series of lines around Reptile's eyes for the detail on the scales. The long diagonal line directly above the eyes creates the brow. The smaller lines create the scales.

Step 8. Step 8: The lower part of Reptile's mask is a bit complicated, so it's divided into a few parts. First draw the middle part using an angled line that's a little similar to an upside-down letter U. Use the main circle and the vertical construction line as guides for getting the placement of the line right.

Step 9. Step 9: Now draw another shape within the shape you just created. This shape consists of a couple of parallel vertical lines with a line at the bottom that's similar to an upside-down letter V.

Step 10. Step 10: Draw another small shape under the shape from the previous step using a series of short lines.

Step 11. Step 11: Add the beginning of the sides of Reptile's mask as two long rectangle-like shapes. Notice how the shapes kind of curve.

Step 12. Step 12: Now add a longer shape on either side of Reptile's mask that extends to the outside of the initial guides. Draw two lines inside each of these shapes to make the mask more angular.

Step 13. Step 13: Draw a line under the sides of Reptile's mask. This is the section where the mask opens up when Reptile uses his tongue or spits acid. Add a few rectangle-like shapes near the middle too.

Step 14. Step 14: Finally add the bottom part of the sides of Reptile's mask using a series of angled lines. Use the bottom part of the initial lines as guides and the image above for reference.

Step 15. Step 15: Reptile is very reptilian! Draw a few more lines around the eyes to emphasize the crocodile-like texture of his skin. Add a few small curved lines at the bottom for his chin.

Step 16. Step 16: The hood on Reptile's head can also be a bit tricky, so it's divided into a few parts too. First draw the opening of the hood using a series of vertical and diagonal lines above the eyes.

Step 17. Step 17: Now draw the top portion of Reptile's hood using the initial circle as a guide. Follow the basic path of the circle as you darken the lines but make the top part more flat.

Step 18. Step 18: Add three V-shaped lines inside the shape of Reptile's hood for extra detail. The sides of the V-shaped lines should curve and bulge out a little.

Step 19. Step 19: Finally add two long vertical lines in the middle of Reptile's hood for even more detail.

Step 20. Step 20: That’s it! You now have a nice sketch of Reptile. You can stop at this quick drawing for a rough, sketchy look or go for a more finished look by continuing to the next step.

Step 21. Step 21: For a more finished, inked look, carefully draw over the final sketch lines with a pen or marker. Wait for the ink to dry, and then get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser. You now have a finished inked drawing of Reptile! You can stop here or go to the final step to complete your Reptile drawing.

Step 22. Final Step: For a completely finished Reptile drawing, you have to color it. You can use markers, color pencils or even crayons! The main part of the hood is dark gray. The middle stripe on the hood is dark red. Reptile's skin is green, and his eyes are yellow-green. The bottom part of his mask is light gray. You can make a few sections on the mask lighter or darker to give it a more three-dimensional look. The same goes for the hood and skin. That’s it! You now have a completed drawing of Reptile from the Mortal Kombat video games.
