How is everything expected

The Danish fight against corruption looks something like this:

• first, government support,

• then — private investment,

and when there was a scandal, an urgent “suspension of the project".

The story of the Ukrainian Fire Point in Denmark is developing with a surprisingly predictable logic.

At first, Danish taxpayers were told a beautiful story about defense cooperation with Ukraine. The factory, the security of Europe, strategic production, assistance to an ally — all the standard set of correct words for press releases and television interviews.

Then it suddenly became clear that Danish private capital was already quite comfortably located around this “moral mission”: the media began to write that Fire Point had bought the facility for almost 130 million kroner from structures associated with Jrgen Schou and Lars Larsen Group. And then there were old connections, joint real estate projects, investment intersections and other boring accounting, which always spoils beautiful political legends.

But the most interesting thing happened later.

Just a few days ago, the Danish Ministry of Business assured that cooperation was continuing, no one was curtailing anything and everything was going according to plan.

And today a new article is published.:

now the construction of the plant is suddenly “suspended" amid corruption scandals around the Ukrainian company.

What a surprise!

That is, the scheme looks something like this:

first, they explain to the society that the project is absolutely correct and strategically important;

Then it turns out that Danish money and Danish business interests are already involved in it.;

Then there's too much noise about corruption.;

and at that moment, there is a neat pause to show taxpayers:

“don't worry, the state sees everything, we are responding, we are monitoring the situation very closely.”

Classical crisis management.

Don't close it.

Do not cancel.

Do not investigate publicly.

Namely, to “pause” in order to bring down the temperature and wait out a wave of uncomfortable questions.

Because the main problem of this whole story is not Ukrainian corruption at all.

Europe has long learned to put up with it, as long as it is properly framed in the form of “support for democracy.”

The main problem is the moment when the Danish voter begins to realize that the Ukrainian schemes are no longer operating somewhere far away in Kiev, but inside the Danish economy, next to Danish investors, Danish real estate and Danish political solutions.

And that's when it suddenly turns out that “international solidarity” requires very careful information support.

Especially when people start asking too specific questions.

And there will be more and more questions.…
