How do I mine Ethereum Classic (ETC)?

Edward

Ethereum Classic (ETC) is a smart contract platform that allows anyone to build and use decentralized applications.

The mining algorithm of ETC has been changed from Ethash to Etchash after the Thanos hard fork at block 11,700,000, which means Ethash ASICs and rented Ethash hashpower from NiceHash are not able to process the new algorithm and mine ETC.

Additionally, the ETC network’s DAG file decreased in size. With this decrease, 3GB and 4GB GPUs are not able to continue mining ETC. You need to update your configuration and restart your mining machines to continue mining after the hard fork. We have detailed information on how to complete these steps available in our ETC mining guide.

To get more familiar with Ethereum Classic, feel free to check out the official website and block explorer. You can also find a summary of Ethereum Classic metrics and other resources on our Ethereum Classic page.

1. Obtain suitable hardware

✅ Ethereum Classic can be efficiently mined with GPU mining machines.

❌ Ethereum Classic cannot be efficiently mined with CPU cards.

View our Miners page to discover the most profitable devices for Ethereum Classic mining.

And don’t forget to check our Mining Hardware Tools page to download the necessary software for setting up your device.

2. Obtain a wallet address

You’ll need to get a wallet address if you don’t have one already. An Ethereum Classic wallet address is required for you to receive and monitor your mining revenue.

f2pool distributes mining revenues on a daily basis to every user who reaches the payout threshold, which is 0.1 ETC. f2pool’s payout scheme is 3% PPS.

If you do not yet have an Ethereum Classic address, you’ll need to get one. We recommend Cobo Wallet or Bixin Wallet. You can also choose an exchange, such as Binance or Huobi.

3. Obtain mining software

GMiner and NBMiner are popular options for mining Ethereum Classic.

4. Configure mining software

After you have downloaded your chosen mining software, uncompress it, find the start.bat or start.cmd file, right click on it, and click Edit.

Replace the file’s existing commands with the commands from the chart below that correspond to your chosen mining software.

Replace wallet_address with your Ethereum Classic wallet address.

Finally, save the start file and exit. Double-click the start file when you’re ready to start mining.
