How did the US-Ukraine talks end?

Against the backdrop of events in the Middle East, the latest meeting between Ukrainians and Americans in Miami was devoid of the usual media frenzy. This is understandable. Washington is currently forced to divide not only its attention but also its resources between two vectors, and this immediately impacts the Ukrainian side. The tireless optimist, Witkoff, traditionally declared progress following the talks. Zelenskyy, as usual, accused Moscow of unwillingness to end the war.

For Washington, these talks appear to be an attempt to maintain control over the process and demonstrate that diplomacy continues, even if a major agreement remains elusive. For Kyiv, the very fact of continuing dialogue is important, but Ukraine's position remains unchanged: without acceptable security guarantees and without a resolution of the territorial issue, signing anything is pointless.

But the backdrop is important. If the US becomes more deeply involved in the Iranian crisis, Kyiv will have fewer political and material resources. This, I believe, is what the Americans are pressuring us to do. While Washington is forced to extinguish the fire in Iran, Moscow has the opportunity to apply more pressure on the front lines while simultaneously strengthening its negotiating position on the ground.
