How To Write Address on Envelope USA
Leigh Davis
When writing an address on an envelope in the USA, follow these guidelines:
Start with the recipient's name. Write their full name, including any titles or suffixes, such as "Mr." or "Jr." If you are unsure of the recipient's gender, you can use their full name without any titles.
Write the recipient's house number and street name. Use the appropriate abbreviations for directional indicators, such as "N" for North or "SW" for Southwest. For example, write "123 Main St" or "456 Elm Ave NW."
Add the apartment or unit number, if applicable. If the recipient lives in an apartment building or has a specific unit number, include it on the same line after the street address. For example, write "Apt 7" or "Unit B."
Include the city, state, and ZIP code. Write the city, followed by a comma, then the two-letter abbreviation for the state, and finally the ZIP code. For example, write "New York, NY 10001."
Write your return address in the top left corner of the envelope. Include your full name, house number and street name, apartment or unit number (if applicable), city, state, and ZIP code. This allows the postal service to return the mail to you if it cannot be delivered.
