How To Use Sex Swing

A sex swing is a device that lifts and suspends one partner off the ground while the other partner or partners can move around them freely to engage in sex. Usually made of rope, fiber, leather, or another sturdy material that can hold a person’s body comfortably and safely, sex swings provide flexibility and variety for sexual activity.
Sex expert Megan Stubbs defines a sex swing for Shape Magazine as “any device that can elevate you and/or your partner, helping you get into new positions or your favorite positions with more ease".
There are many different kinds of sex swings, and many different ways to use them. Most people use them as a way to spice up your sex life . There are a few general types:
These include two primary straps and stirrups with additional options like handles and headrests. You can install them in many different ways, like ceiling hooks, free-standing frames, and between the walls in a hallway. They allow for the highest number of sexual positions.
The partner wears the sex swing like a life jacket with additional straps to support the buttocks and legs. There are handles and leg straps for the partner on the ground to move and control the harness.
These swings are installed over a door and secured by the door frame. They work like a playground swing, where the partner in the air is supported by a strap across their butt. These can also include leg and arm straps. While there is a limited range of motion, installation is quick and easy.
Sex slings are like a hammock and usually come with a free-standing base for support. Sex slings tend to be more expensive and have a limited number of position options compared to other swing styles, but they are comfortable for the swinging partner.
Sex swings have become popular because they provide an easy way to have more exciting and better sex by allowing you to change up the positions you can try. Sex swings allow you and your partner to try new positions and stimulate parts of the body from angles that aren’t possible when having sex on a bed.
People also like sex swings because they are relatively cheap and easy to use. Most sex swings cost less than $100. The more upscale models cost up to a couple hundred dollars.
First, think about which swing you and your partner would like to try. One expert recommends starting off with a door sex swing because they are relatively inexpensive and easy to set up.
Second, identify where to set it up. Will you keep it up permanently or store it after each use? One good, safe location to hang a sex swing is from a sturdy ceiling bar in the middle of an open room. Another approach is a sex swing with its own support system. Sex swings with a swing stand are more expensive and require more effort to set up, but they could be easier than taking out the hammers, nails, screws, and screwdrivers that some of the other swings require.
Regardless of which sex swing you choose, make sure to read the instruction manual and installation guides carefully.
It’s important to clean any sex toy, especially if you use it with a partner. You can clean cloth sex swings in a washing machine, and simply use anti-bacterial soap and water for nylon or leather swings.

Sex swings are made of fiber, rope, or other strong material that can hold a person’s body in the air comfortably and safely. Sex swings provide a wide variety of different sexual experiences.
There are many different kinds of sex swings and sex swing positions. They include:
One partner straps into what looks like a life jacket and is suspended in the air. There are additional straps to support the legs and handles for the other partner or partners to move and control the harness.
These swings are secured over a door. While they have a limited range of motion, they are simple to install. They are used similar to how a playground swing is used and can include leg and arm straps.
Sex slings look like a hammock and typically have their own free-standing base. The suspended partner has the option to strap in or swing freely.
These swings are composed of two primary straps and stirrups. They can also include handles and headrests. They can hold up to two people and typically hang from ceiling hooks, free-standing frames, or between the walls in a hallway.
Sex swing positions are as varied and diverse as regular sex positions, except that one or both partners are suspended in the air by a sex swing. Some variations of sex swing positions include:
The receiving partner straps into the swing with their back towards the ground. With each foot in a leg strap, they open their legs to allow the penetrating partner to come between them.
The receiving partner leans over and has the swing support them by the waist. The penetrating partner can lift both legs or put them in straps if available and come in from behind.
Swinging Cowgirl and Swinging Reverse Cowgirl
In this position, the penetrating partner sits in the swing and their partner climbs on top, facing them (cowgirl), or with their back to them (reverse cowgirl).
Using the seat of the sex swing to support the back of the thighs, the receiving can stand on the leg straps and move up and down onto the penetrating partner, who is standing behind them.
In this position, the receiving partner lets their buttocks hang below the swing seat and holds the supporting straps with their hands. The penetrating partner can either approach from behind or be lying on the ground, depending on the height of the sex swing.
Oral sex can also be performed using the sex swing. The penetrating partner can stand, sit, or lie down, depending on the height of the sex swing.
They Can Only Be Done with a Partner
Sex swings can be used for solitary masturbation. Be sure, however, that you’re able to get in and out of the sex swing safely by yourself.
Before using a sex swing, be sure to safely install it and read the instructions. Make sure your partner also understands how to use the sex swing. Communicate with your partner when using the sex swing to ensure you’re on the same page regarding position requirements and switching positions.
Some experts recommens trying a door sex swing first because they’re easy to set up and relatively inexpensive. That way you and your partner can try to see if the swing is something you want to bring into your sex life without spending too much or installing something more permanent.

I think I'll try defyiiiiiiiing gravity....
If you're looking for fun ways to mix up your sex life , then you've come to the right place! Whether you want info on sex toys , erotic lingerie and crotchless panties we've got your back: we've even got the down-low on how to go about adding a sex swing to your collection. Yep, sex swings are a thing (they're not just limited to the world of porn ) and they're not as intimidating as you might think at first. They're actually...kind of practical?
If you're fantasising about investing in your first sex swing, here's our guide to all the different types and the best ways to use them.
A sex swing is basically what it says on the tin: a swing to use during sex. And while it might sound like something limited to the world of bondage , that's totally not the case.
"A common misconception is that sex swings are predominantly used for BDSM fun, but this couldn't be further from the truth," says sex expert Jess Wilde, the resident sexpert on E4's The Sex Clinic , and UK Advisor for CLIMAX , a sex education video series dedicated to female pleasure .
"Sex swings are used to enhance all kinds of sex play and are not limited to BDSM scenes," she explains, adding that using a sex swing doesn't need to involve any kind of power play .
It's simple. "Also known as a 'sex position enhancer', sex swings make otherwise-impossible sex positions, possible," Jess explains.
One partner will be suspended in the swing while the other is standing on the ground, making positions like standing sex much easier. Meanwhile, the partner in the swing can also be fully reclined, essentially floating in the air. Fun, right?
And there's not just one type... Different types of sex swing include:
An over-the-door sex swing is the easiest kind to use for a lot of people. All you need is a strong door to hang it from, and it can be packed away nice and easily.
Most over-the-door sex swings work by having heavy barbells at the end of the straps, which are hung over the other side of the door to keep the swing in place.
Sex and relationships expert for Lovehoney , Annabelle Knight, recommends Lovehoney's Bondage Boutique Soft Over-The-Door Sex Swing , which is ideal for trying sex standing up, without one partner having to hold the other's weight.
Rather than keeping the person in the swing upright, sex slings look more like a hammock, and allow the partner in the swing to recline so they're almost lying down.
Plus, they mean you can experiment with some whole new sensations, like "zero gravity sex", says Annabelle, who recommends Lovehoney's Purple Reins Sex Sling as a comfortable option.
Instead of hanging over the door, sex slings like this tend to come with a heavy-duty carabiner clip connecting the straps, which can clip to a sex swing frame, or can suspend freely from a structural household beam or ceiling rafter (but always check the instructions).
Of course, this means that sex slings require a bit more effort to set up and to pack away, but they can still be stored discreetly once taken down.
This traditional style of sex swing has the most flexibility for trying pretty much any position, says Annabelle, who recommends Lovehoney's Bondage Boutique Deluxe Fetish Sex Swing .
Traditional sex swings like this usually come with too straps and two stirrups, and are usually suitable to hang from the ceiling using the screw provided. Just make sure to always check the weight limit on the instructions, as well as how to safely put it up.
There's no one reason to use a sex swing, and the answer might be that you just want to try it! However, there are some pretty practical reasons for using a sex swing, like to help with a distinct height difference between you and your partner, or for people with disabilities, says Jess.
"Sex swings allow you to work smarter, not harder in the bedroom," says Annabelle. "They can give you access to new positions without requiring you to be an acrobat or super flexible," she continues - and let's be honest, no one wants to be pulling a muscle.
Of course, make sure you always follow the instructions for the sex swing you're using. Check how much weight it can hold, where it can be suspended from, and make sure you've fastened all the clips correctly. It's worth spending a bit longer setting it up to avoid any injuries.
If it's your first time using a sex swing, your body will probably be placed in a whole bunch of positions it's not used to, so don't push yourself if it doesn't feel right.
"When using a swing, just listen to your body," says Annabelle. "If your muscles start screaming at you, tell your partner and adjust the straps or your limb placement." And remember: "Never leave a restrained person unattended - even for a moment," Annabelle adds.
If you are using a sex swing as part of BDSM or bondage, then arrange a safe word with your partner beforehand, as well as discussing your boundaries extensively beforehand. And of course, consent to every new act is essential.
Aftercare is key following any sexual encounter, but with something new (and potentially involving bondage) like a sex swing, it's even more important to check in with your partner afterwards. "Lots of hugs, loving touches and an open chat about the experience you’ve just shared are great ways to do this," Annabelle suggests.

Straight from experts who've used them.

Some forays into new sexual territory, like trying a bendy new position, require nothing more than a little courage, communication, and maybe some good lube (like NaturaLove Organic Personal Lubricant from the Women's Health Boutique). Others—like hopping into a sex swing for the first time—may feel a bit more intimidating.
Many people may not even know what a sex swing is, which is why we asked Victor Tobar, national buying and merchandising manager at The Pleasure Chest, and sex swing enthusiast, to explain. “My first experience using a sling was at a sex party at a dungeon in NYC. I was with a date who was in the sling, and I think we were both a combination of nervous about trying something new—particularly about trying something new in public—and also really excited about getting to try this new kind of bondage,” Tobar says.
But really, the swing is not that complicated (nor are they only available at sex parties—more on that later): “Think of a swing in a playground, but for adults,” says Tobar. “They vary in shape, so the partner who is on the sling is either fully or partially reclined. Some slings have one or more points that connect to a bolt in the ceiling, and some come with free-standing frames, so you don't have to get out your power tools,” he says. One thing all swings all have in common is that they give the partner standing on solid ground more access to their swinging partner’s bod.
Since getting into the swing of things (yes, pun intended) requires a bit of prep work, you'll want to talk it out first. "Introducing the idea to a partner can be as simple as talking about trying new positions , or it can be focused on trying something adventurous and fun that will level up your experience of intimacy," says Santos, a Pleasure Chest employee who’s experimented with sex swings before.
To get the lowdown on what it's really like to use a sex swing, we asked sexperts for everything you need to know before giving it a go.
Watch men and women come up with names for these adventurous sex positions:
Okay now that you're both on board, how do you actually take the thing for a test drive? If you're looking to experiment with using a sex swing at home, first of all, you're going to want to buy cheap, says Reid Mihalko, a sex and relationships expert and emcee of this year's Sex Expo . Figure out if you're into it before investing in a high-end swing (just beware the cheaper ones are less comfortable so you may find yourself wishing for a little more padding). Sex swings can range in price from under $100 to up to $500. ( This door-jam sex swing from Babeland is only $65!)
To get the scoop on how to start swinging, check out a local feminist sex-toy shop where you can chat with an expert who might be better equipped to guide you than Google, says Mihalko. (He named The Pleasure Chest, Babeland, Good Vibrations, and Smitten Kitten as top picks in New York City.) Depending on the type of swing you get, you may have to do a little home renovation/installation, so for first timers or apartment dwellers, look for free-standing swings or slings you can put over the back of a door.
Trying one out for the first time can require a bit of troubleshooting—just like a swing on the playground or a hammock, it moves as you’re trying to climb in (duh) and get settled. “It took a little bit of figuring out,” says Tobar. “A little bit of laughter can help to ease the tension of trying something new.”
“People use sex swings for many different reasons,” says Tobar. Number one, they certainly spice things up—using a swing can allow you to try different moves that you just couldn’t do lying on a bed or couch. Secondly, he explains, there’s an element of bondage and power play going on, since the person in the swing is more restricted than they’d normally be. “Most importantly, I think, sex swings induce a sense of adventure and fun. Being suspended and bound, and at your partner's mercy can be incredibly exciting. He also notes that since using a swing requires a lot of trust, it can feel like a really intimate activity.
“My date being in the sling opened up a world of possibilities, because I was totally in charge, and got to create a range of different sensations for her, which felt amazing for me," Tobar says. "Something I really liked about it was being able to create a prolonged sensory experience that wasn't solely focused on penetration—think massaging and oral." During penetration, all that momentum translates to extra intensity and having straps to hold onto can give you the leverage you need to hold a position longer, he says. The most stable sex positions for swinging tend to be ones where you and your partner are facing each other—the swinging partner is on their back with their legs apart and the standing partner is standing between them.
Most importantly, "go in with a playful attitude," Mihalko says. "Make this more about playground fun and adventure and exploration—the hot and sexy will show up later. Once you get the hang of it, it will naturally become sexier and hotter over time."
Think of it as releasing your inner child in a very adult way. “I think slings are very useful for creating a sense of letting go. Once you're in a sling, you get to physically and emotionally lean into it, and open yourself up to different k
