Just tried this recently because I've been experiencing whole system freezes when opening projects with 5.3.x:
Here's what I found. (~ denotes your local user folder.) You can jump to any of these locations in the Finder by pressing Command-Shift-G, then typing part of the path and hitting Tab to complete.

This list may not be exhaustive, but it did seem to "reset" things at least...although it didn't resolve my issue.

Delete the following folders or files:

/Applications/Unity
~/Library/Application Support/Unity
~/Library/Caches/com.unity3d.*
~/Library/Logs/Unity
~/Library/Preferences/Unity
~/Library/Preferences/com.unity3d.*
~/Library/Unity
~/Library/Preferences/com.OverTheEdge.BugReporter.plist
~/Library/Preferences/dk.Otee.*
/Library/Application Support/Unity (License file is here...prolly best to leave it alone, or return your license first before deleting)
/Library/Application Support/PACE Anti-Piracy

Wow are you serious?! I just got a mac, not by choice but only because they force you to publish apps (dumb) now this? What's wrong with control panel - uninstall program - done!...

sbrouillard , Dennis_eA and bhermer like this.

If you've ever developed 2D or 3D games on your Mac, or just experimented with the possibilities, you've probably downloaded Unity at some point. If you no longer use or need it, you should uninstall it to free up space. In this article, we will show you how to do it manually. We will also show you a much faster and easier way to uninstall any app.
Unity is a cross-platform engine for creating 2D and 3D games. It was first released for Mac, back in 2005. And now it runs on Windows and web browsers. Unity is compatible with more than 25 gaming platforms, including iOS, Android, Mac, Windows, PlayStation, and Xbox.
It is also used to create virtual reality and augmented reality simulations for architecture, engineering, automotive, and construction. And it has even been used to make a movie. By 2018, Unity had been used to create around half of the mobile games on the market and 60% of the virtual and augmented reality content. At the time, 90% of content on Microsoft's HoloLens and Samsung's Gear VR was created with Unity.
Unity's goal when it was released was to "democratize" game development and make it much easier for many more developers to create games by providing the necessary tools. It has been very successful in doing just that.
The latest version of Unity for Mac requires macOS High Sierra or later and a Metal-capable GPU. It takes about 4 GB installed, but the projects you create will take tens of GB more.
If the reason you're uninstalling Unity is that you don't have enough disk space to do so, you might first try cleaning up the clutter on your Mac. Your Mac accumulates several gigabytes of junk files as you use it. Getting rid of them can allow you to continue using Unity or keep it on your Mac in case you want to use it in the future. What app to use to remove junk? CleanMyMac X is quite good as it shows many hidden junk locations like old backups.
There are two parts to uninstalling Unity on your Mac, when you do it manually. The first is to remove the main application and the second is to track down all the files you have placed in different places on your Mac and get rid of them.
To get rid of all the extra files, do the following.
You should now have removed all traces of Unity from your Mac. To make sure, open a Finder window and type 'drive' in the search box. Press Return. If there are any results, drag them to the Trash and empty them.
As you can see, uninstalling Unity manually is a long and rather complicated process. Fortunately, there is a much easier way. CleanMyMac X's uninstall module allows you to uninstall apps and drivers in just a couple of clicks. It tracks down all those extra files for you and removes them, so you don't need to do any detective work. It has a free version that will do the job easily.
That is all. That's all about it. All traces of Unity have now been removed from your Mac.
As you may have noticed when looking for Unity in the list of applications. CleanMyMac X allows you to filter apps by developer. So if you wanted to uninstall a Microsoft app for example, you would click on Microsoft in the middle window. This would then filter the apps in the right window to only show the ones from Microsoft. You can also use the search bar to search for the app you want to uninstall. If you want to filter apps by the store you downloaded them to, say Mac App Store or Setapp, you can do that too.
And if you click the arrow to the right of any app in the list, you'll see a list of the files CleanMyMac X has found, including the app's binary and all supporting files.
And you can uninstall multiple apps simultaneously. Just check the box next to each of them and when you're done, hit Uninstall. Uninstaller also allows you to reset apps, which returns them to their default state, instead of uninstalling them. Simply check the box next to the app, click the arrow next to Uninstall, and choose Reset.
Unity is an engine for developing games for multiple platforms, including mobile devices and consoles. It is also used to develop AR and VR content for industries such as construction and engineering. If you have used it in the past and now want to uninstall it, you can do so by following the steps above to manually uninstall it. However, if you want an easier way to uninstall it, CleanMyMac X can do it for you in just a few clicks.
