Plastic Recycling Process

Plastic recycling goes through several stages, as follows:

  • There are seven different recycling symbols that are located at the bottom of the plastic cans. Plastic materials are sorted according to these symbols, and there may be additional sorting depending on the color of the plastic.
  • Cut the plastic into small pieces.
  • Clean the plastic pieces, remove the paper on them, and the residue, and remove dirt, dust, and other contaminants.
  • Dissolve and compress plastic parts, so that the recycled plastic granules are ready for reuse, as they can be recycled to make the same first products.

Types of plastics that are recycled

There are several types of plastics that are recycled, including:

  • Polyethylene terephthalate plastic: This type of plastic is strong and durable, moisture resistant, and is commonly used in cans of soft drinks, water, plastic cans, and peanut butter jars.
  • High-density polyethylene plastic: This type of plastic is solid, strong, moisture-proof and gas-permeable, and is used in the manufacture of milk cans, juice, plastic water bottles, and garbage bags.
  • Polyvinyl chloride plastic: This type is characterized by its purity, strength, durability, and ease of folding, and is commonly used in the manufacture of juice cans, adhesive tapes, and plastic pipes.
  • Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE) Plastic: Easy to handle, strong, durable and resilient, moisture resistant and commonly used in frozen food bags, freeze boxes and flexible cans.

Encourage plastic recycling

Consumers in many areas are encouraged to recycle empty beverage cans by returning them to the place of purchase, by requiring them to pay a deposit on each packet at the time of purchase. It is noteworthy that these measures have helped to increase the rate of recycling of plastic containers, especially those made of polyethylene terephthalate plastic and high-density polyethylene plastic.

The importance of recycling plastic economically

Recycling, in general, is important to the state's economy, through which it can create economic development, provide new jobs more efficient and lead to sustainable development in industries, and support the economy in the long term, there is a huge demand in the market to collect and sort plastic containers Especially with the development of collection and processing technology.

Recycling can be an effective alternative to conventional disposal of materials in a landfill. For example, collection and disposal of plastic containers currently cost the UK $ 100 million each year. This cost will increase as tax rates for landfills increase. Plastic that is buried is a source of wealth if sold for more than £ 27 million.
