Me and my girl are planning on doin some bondage. I've heard that a hogtie is the most common bondage and ive also read that just tying the feet to the hands isnt the best way to hogtie someone. So could anyone please explain the right way or give other bondage suggestions?

You need to leave her some slack to keep her comfortable. Personally I'd have thought the good ole spread eagle on the bed to be the most common. So once you've hogtied her, what are you gonna do with her?
I think if this is your first time as a couple hogtie might be a bit extreme to start off with. Although it is a lot of fun so up to you...
There are indeed various ways of doing it:
You could buy some cuffs (ankle and wrist) and then use something to connect them all together. You can buy specific hogtieing X s for use with cuffs. For example: http://stockroom.com/Leather-Hog-Tie-P1023.aspx
The plus side to this is that it is really quick and also because it is relativly loose (as in there is some slack not that it is easy to get out of) you actually can tie the wrists directly to the ankles.
Or you could use rope. With rope there are a number of ways to hogtie someone with varying degrees of difficulty.
You can tie their wrists together and their ankles together (make sure you do this in a safe way, follow a tutorial if you have never done it before eg: http://63.134.230.60/video/01_TwoColumnTie.swf)and then run a rope between the two. But you must leave some slack so that they do not hurt their wrists, arms and back, also it will not be possible for them to maintain the position for long.
It would be better (although more complicated) to follow this tutorial: http://63.134.230.60/video/08_BasicHogTie.swf Create a chest harnes which can be used to attach both the wrists and ankles to. This way you can achieve a much stricter position with less slack but it will be much more comfortable for the person in the tie and they will be able to maintain it for longer.
